#nightwish #yesterwynde #nightwishlanternlight #knightwishthedayof

In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm listening to two new songs from Yesterwynde, the latest album from Nightwish. The Day Of... is the second single from the album. And, Lanternlight is the poignant and powerful closing track. I marveled at both of these songs for their musical and human depth. So far, this is a very strong offering from Nightwish. What do you think?

I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. So Lantern Light runs deep, cuts deep. I understand the loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability there that I have not heard before, and it just breaks you. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. The poetry of this song is also heart-rendingly exquisite. It is a poem, a prayer, an elegy. Listen to it. Just listen to it. Tuomas’ poetry can easily stand alone. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling.

This album is another masterpiece of Nightwish. Not just music but art.

Lantern Light is the best song this 63 year old man has ever heard. It must be over 100 times by now and the feeling this song gives me is truly indescribable but soul touching

I can't believe that after almost 30 years of being active, Nightwish casually drops possibly their best album yet. They are getting better and better. I am in love with this album.

Yes Doug, the projector sound is part of the song. The album opens with that sound in the first track and conclude with it in Lanternlight.

Lanternlight... man, that feels like a song that was 28 years in the making for Tuomas to achieve. So many bombastic pieces from power metal to epic film score. And here we are with such a patient, mature and moving piece.

Not many bands would put out a single like Lanternlight. Its slow, simple, no autotune, emotionally raw. Cant think of the last time a song like that was released by a major band.,

I know I'm late to the party here, but Lanternlight has become not only one of my favorite Nightwish songs, but one of my favorite pieces of music ever. My parents both died when i was relatively young (dad when i was 10, mom when i was 28), and i miss them terribly but am so grateful to have had them. Lanternlight brings it all back to me, my wonderful parents and the incredible memories i have of them, as well as the grief that still presses in on me. Thank you for your reaction, to both songs. The whole album is just spectacular, though, and you should really react to the whole thing.

I can listen to her the whole day too. Amazing! Floor is one of the most gifted singers of all time.

When I purchased the album I was happily surprised to find that all of the songs are also released as "just" the orchestral music. On a side note, Floor sang her parts six weeks after giving birth. The guys worked around her having to do all the baby stuff that moms do ..

This is Finland in October, November. (No Halloween.) We are greeting our lost ones with quiteness and love. We light our lanterns.

Tuomas calls it a love song (written just after his father died in fact on Feb 4th 2021). The love of all those who have gone before and been lost (a major theme of the album). All the ways in which people live on in nature and all around you.

The album starts with the projector (the "magic lantern") and ends with it.
That first track has basses who really stand out, almost like Russian Orthodox basso profundo.

The album needs to be heard from as a whole, from beginning to end. What a musical rollercoaster of surreal soundscapes, melodies and surprises. The whole is more than the sum of it's parts. A Masterpiece.

This must be the most beautiful amazing meaningful poignant composition ive ever heard.
It flows seamlessly from tuomas dads death to the message from his dad then tuomas speaking at the end.
I lost both parents in march 2016 and the words and music of this echo much of how my grief journey has been so far.
My dad always said we never truly die, we live on in memories, hearts and genetics but most importantly in the messages and teachings we get from those before us and in turn pass to those after us.
My dad often spoke of stories he heard from his grandad and ive passed those onto my kids and grandkids. So thats 6 generations (so far) touched by stories told by my great grandfather.

Masterpiece of total art! Lanternlight broke me. My father passed away two months ago and I am totally emotionally compromised.
