In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm reacting to Nightwish's Ghost Love Score. I'm using their live performance from 2013. This was the first time for me hearing anything from this band, and I was quite impressed with their sound...especially the lead singer.

Most people sing what they can, Floor sings what she wants.

My ex-wife called Floor "pitchy" after hearing her sing. Anyway, ex-wife.

His reaction at 3:00 when he discovers the awesomeness of Floor and looks at the camera is priceless. I got chills watching someone else discover what I once experienced.

Tuomas Holopainen is probably the best composer in modern era of rock music. And Floor is absolutely one of the best singers of all time.

Hello Doug Helvering ! Nightwish fans here, your reaction just appeared on our radar..
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k+ audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals and charisma of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Thanks for the composition analysis. It helps us fans better understand WHY we follow them. Hoping for more thorough future analysis, you have my subscription. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):

" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "

Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory):

The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. I have nothing against previous singers, but I do not consider myself the most suitable person to give specific recommendations from their repertoires.
** I think it's your place, fans of previous Nightwish eras, to present to the reactors the best recommendations with Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon, because you know and appreciate them directly. I encourage you to add the best recommendations in the comments. **
That being said, I will add here the message left the other days by an old fan of the band, @Fabrizio Gorla: " To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs. Just be fair and don’t make a comparison if you don’t want an open war in your comment section.
* The Tarja era *:
The lyrics of this song are a treasure of citations from fantasy books.
@Fabrizio Gorla: * The Anette era *:
* Bonus track *:

Thank you! Waiting for more Nightwish reactions. All the best from RO. Stay safe.

Tuomas: "Floor, what's your voice range"?
Floor: "Yes".

"In the beginning God created Music, and said it was good"
"Next he created Nightwish and said it was excellent"
"He then created Floor Jansen and dropped his microphone, for he had created perfection"

If Emppu were to explode and his love and compassion scattered over the world there would never be a war again...
He's colloquially known as "the smiling man".
He's also super tiny which is just makes you wonder how so much positive energy can fit into such a little fellow.

He's a friggin legend.

You mentioned Heart. The singer of Nightwish, Floor Jansen, has a cover on her youtube channel of 'Alone', by Heart.
You know, maybe something to check out at some point.

I'm 74. Listened primarily to classical my whole life. Started composing this past April. Discovered symphonic metal about three years ago, thanks to Nightwish. Best band on the planet (Vienna phil not relevant here ;).

Greatest show on Earth, live at tampere.. I think you will enjoy that one more, a lot more composition and arrangements, and more instruments. This should be your next Nightwish reaction, I would love to hear your analysis on that one. Thanks for the great reaction

Sooo, I had never heard of Nightwish before I stumbled onto this reaction video about a month ago and I was blown away (thanks Doug, for bringing them into my life). They are so different from the music I usually listen to. But now, after weeks of listening to their music, I just bought tickets to see them perform at the end of the year!!! So freaking excited for that. Guess I'm part of the army now :) :)
