First dyno session went well, a few snags to fix, but all in all a great first run.:) Next run will incorporate an EGT, oil temp, boost pressure and alternator.

These always bring back a flood of memories. Seems like every 53 or 71 series we rebuilt had oil leaks. My dad used to say you could weld one up and oil would seep through the block. :-)

We ran them for days and weeks on end in the oil field. The 53's did great running fresh water pumps and light plants. The 6-71's, usually in tandem, handled the big stuff. They were great engines in their day, and are still great with the right application.

Good to watch, and interesting information coming up. Blown belt, oil leaks etc. all teething issues, and it's really good that you have a test stand/ dynamometer at your disposal too.

1:53 Thats nice to see 80psi oil pressure! I'm sure being a lil cold is helping that out but thats really nice pressure huh? Can't wait to see all the different injectors & blower combinations and what comes out on top, should be very interesting!👍🏻👌🏻🛠️🔩🔧🛢️💨

Sweet! The ONLY diesel that is truly worth having! Clark cycle valve uni-flow! I need to get one of my 2 valveless loop scavenged Day cycle 4-51’s going again! Such rare, awesome and COOL Detroits indeed! Good stuff! Cheers and bring back the 2 stroke gas and diesel engines! The only principle of operation that ever made sense! Cheers! 👍🏻😋

Good video! I'm looking forward to all the different injectors, blower set ups, ex. On the Dyno .As I've said before I've done a lot of work no the older Detroit's but no very little about the silver series I've learned a lot watching your videos. I have 3or 4 6v53's laying around and currently looking for enough stuff to build a silver or a complete 6v53 silver to swap into a 1968 Dodge D300 using a modern chassis of some breed probably RAM . The incredible hood height of the truck should give me the room I need to shoe Horn it in . The Dyno runs will give a good idea of the setup I want for the 6v. I'm very interested in how you built your blower by pass .

I love how it's so loud that you can see the dog barking, but not hear him lol.

I wonder if the fan is being driven too fast? HP required by a fan varies as the cube of it's speed. It looks too big to be run that fast, just eyeballing the slight reduction between the engine and the fan. Cut the fan speed in half, and might make 400 ft lbs net from the engine.

The dyno mule seems to be doing well, can't really read the torque readings, but it's looking fairly strong from my view point, again can't really read the guage very well, but it looks like it's doing well...

Smooth. When I heard that pop and there wasn't a fire or oil spouting off, I knew it was a boot 😆 You'd probably get her up to around 500 pounds with an intercooler. I suppose it depends on the application before spending that cash.

Alright kinda random place to ask this, but I'd like to swap a Detroit into my old obs truck. Do you have any suggestions, I found a 4-71t but I'm not sure if that's too big or anything

I think I missed something. What is the purpose for 20 hrs of dyno time - break in? I know different injectors are in the works.
