The new "Batgirl" movie that cost $90 million to make is being shelved. Warner Bros confirmed the news by stating, "The decision to not release batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO max." The new DC film was set to star "In the Heights" actress Leslie Grace. Michael Keaton was also supposed to star in the movie, reprising his role from the 1989 "Batman" movie.

DC needs to really step up their game, if that’s even possible

Everyone: Warner Bros is so dumb for cancelling Batgirl
Warner Bros: But you didn't see the screening. We did you a favor.

Everyone: *mad at Batgirl getting cancelled*

Warner Bros: "If you've seen what I've seen, you would've done the same!"

I guarantee you that most people didn't know there was, nor were they looking forward to seeing a Batgirl movie

Crazy that a movie post production is cancelled. I feel so bad for all the actors and crew who were involved in production

Only thing I could imagine the test audience not liking was probably the story, may have not been a very solid run, and maybe they worried Batgirl doesn't have a very large fan base behind her.

I didn't even know they were making a Batgirl movie

The directors said that the public deserve to see so much hard work, also you really shouldn’t base a film’s success on test audiences, also if they said this was irredeemable, then how come that first suicide squad still came out?

I feel bad for those people putting all of their hard work into the movie and it’s sequel. Honestly I hope one day I can see it for myself and wonder why it didn’t get released

What a waste of precious time and money... There's no way they have to call it off

Edit: So many likes... Dad I think I've made you proud

This might be a marketing strategy to build up anticipation for the release. A movie testing bad has never stopped a studio from releasing, they always want to minimise their losses.

I used to believe once a movie starts shooting, it's safe. Not anymore. RIP Batgirl.

They have to stop pandering to people that won’t even watch the movie this is a good step into the future

Never heard of a movie being cancelled when it was already completely filmed and in post-production. Even if they think it would be a flop you would think that considering they were so far along in production and spent so much money, they would still release it to try to get at least some of that money back. It must have been REALLY bad and they were embarrassed to have their name associated with it so much so that they were willing to lose all the money.

“The movie has tested so poorly…”
It must have been the worst for them not to release it after $90 million!!!

It crazy because they left out the part where bredan Frasier was gonna be the main bad guy firefly and he was the best part of the movie apparently from the test screening

This has actually happened once before that I can remember. The Exorcists prequel Dominion was so bad after it was finished, the studio fired everyone on that film, save for two actors, and re-shot the entire movie! The studio eventually released Dominion, and I so regret watching that movie as it is time I will never get back. The studio was right to shelve Dominion, a I'm sure Batgirl was horrid enough to be shelved.

I feel so bad for the cast and crew who put their blood, sweat, and tears into making Batgirl, only for their hard work to not be shown and recognized.

The question is "was it going to be worse than Catwoman?"

The thing about actually introducing characters that have linked to bigger characters is that people will always associate the character to the bigger one. Like Supergirl to Superman or Robin to batman. I'm just wondering what the story was supposed to be about. Hopefully they'll actually adapt that into a comic book. What can't they get the characters right?
