I met a couple with a dog off leash on the hiking trail in Arizona. The dog came running over and attempted to jump up. I kneed him in the chest and shouted to him to get down. The couple asked me if I liked dogs and I replied, " I love dogs, I just don't like their owners who don't teach them manners."

My trainer recommended stepping forward into their space until they’re off. Helped my dog quickly

I want to see the results in your shorts, not just the advice you give. The vids would be twice as effective if in every one you showed a before and after. Great channel, btw.

I taught my dog to get off when she jumped on people. She knows the word very well. But, when her favorite people stop by, she gets excited and starts to jump and I tell her right away, Off!
She listens, but she continues the behavior every time she sees her favorite people. She loves her friends so much.
She's so very smart. She knows and understands, but, she's just so happy to see her people that she forgets momentarily.
She knows over 30 commands and some hand signals.
Best dog ever!!
I love my Staffy, Tesla. 🥰

What has worked really well for me is when I correct the jump I take a step into them and as soon as he comes down I command sit. I did it 3 times and my dog literally never did it again.

That method is also used by Will Atherton. I've tried it and it works very well.

NEEDED THIS!! Was just going through your YouTube channel to find something about this couple days ago. I adopted a Catahoula at 4 months from death row and now at 5 months he started this jumping thing. Can't get him to stop so I hv been using the ecollar. Gonna try this now! Thank you

As a training dog trainer, I practice positive reinforcement, what you can do, and it 100% works, is when the dog jumps, cross your arms, turn your back to the dog, and do NOT pay attention to it until it's calm, and only when it's calm, it gets attention. It may take a good few times for it to click in the dogs mind, and it'll take a little bit for it to stick, but it involves no slip leash, no choke collars, no prong collors, or anything even remotely confrontational. It's a direct negative action to the dogs bad behavior without harming it in any way. Anything that slips, pokes, or hurts your dog in any way, is not good. It teaches them to fear you, and one day, that dog is going to have enough and it's going to bite. Why do you think some dogs "turn" on their owners?

God I need this. My dog is a jumper and it's to the point I dread seeing my parents or anyone we know when he's with me- he's gonna get excited, jump, my mom will be wearing a white shirt that gets dirty, I gotta resolve this

Why do you need a slip lead? Why don't you just push him off and say off/down/no. This can seriously be trained out of a dog in less than a minute from a 4 year old. Slip lead correction is still better than the techniques like turning your back, yelling, crying etc...but it really makes you wonder about some "professional" trainers

If its a small dog you can gently knee the dog backwards (like a push) while its vertical and it will stop very quickly and doesn't hurt it, worked on my corgi

Loving these lessons. Thank you. My dog doesn't jump but my friends dog is a nightmare. I'll do this next time I walk him. Thank you.

If I knew what a slip leash was it may have helped.

I just placed another comment on your other video but my moms dog is super aggressive and territorial over my mom. She will walk ahead of you just so she can make sure she's "protecting" her so we won't get to her first. She also attacks my little dog and goes crazy over walks when she sees another dog. We need major help /:

So, honest question: Does that ever give rise to the problem that the dog knows to not jump only when the leash is on?

I'm only asking 'cause it seems like the sort of thing my old dog would do.

This is exactly what I was told to do. It hasn't worked yet. I will be trying the slip leash instead.
