I've been listening to Bills book and it is amazing how awful a lot of our presidents were. Just started listening about LBJ and can barely stomach listening to his story. My only regret is that I didn't have a notebook nearby to keep track on their triumphs and downfalls. Great book! Highly recommend!! Schools don't teach this stuff, presidents who we thought were amazing were anything but! Oh and the democrats have been dirty since our country formed!

Washington went to his mother, who was on her deathbed, at her home in Fredericksburg, Va to ask for her blessing before traveling to New York to be sworn in as president. She gave her blessing. Just after his inauguration he learned of his mother's passing. He did not make it back for her funeral because of the travel time to get back from New York to Virginia in time.

Washington had a bad relationship with his mother, and his father died early. Lincoln was the opposite. His mother died early, and he had a bad relationship with his father. As for TR?? His mother and first wife both died on the same night, in the same house. And he was only 18 when his father died. Grant was an alcoholic who most people looked over for a long time. FDR was paraplegic. Kennedy suffered from chronic back pain. Nixon had a very abusive father. It reminds us to try not to let these kinds of things define us. As most of us confront these kinds of things in one way or another.
