I show how to adjust the shift cable on a Shimano Nexus Inter 3 three speed internal geared hub. It's a fast and easy adjustment. And you pretty much just need a 10mm wrench.

👍 And please give my video a thumbs up 👍

I miss your weekly videos. you have a great way of explaining everything down to the little details. there's always GCN however all the bikes and tech are all new and expensive. there was the bikemanforu silly but one could still learn repair from him. if you stop where will I go for such great content videos ???? lots out there on the web however most not worth watching unless I can't fall asleep. I also watch park tool however they are trying too hard to be funny and miss out on the small details. hope to see many more of your repair videos soon . keep up the great work

This works for the later plastic-housing Nexus 3-speed clickboxes as well. Also, it is always a good idea to cycle the shifter about 5-8 times during adjustment - a few times more than you'd expect. Occasionally you'll find the adjustment won't hold it's initial position. If anything sticks, undo the clickbox using the 10mm wrench at the back (cable will stay on) and check the hub pushrod for grease or a kink in the spring.

Haven't posted in a while. Hope everything is fine and you're just lazy or fed up of it all, lol. Best wishes for 2021 to you and family. Cheers.

Suggestion: a video on how to disassemble the nexus 3 and dip it into shimano oil for maintenance. And reassemble. I suspect some people would be interested, that would get clicked quite a lot, i don’t see clear tutorials out there. I thought about doing it for my mother’s bike but was put off by the lack of info, i didn’t want to end up with a bunch of small parts on the table and being unable to reassemble. Just suggesting.
Anyway, video liked as usual.

Although I know how to adjust it, I watched this because RJ's videos are satisfying.
Plus, repetition is the mother of knowledge!

This is right on time ! I went to some shops to buy parts for my bike and true my rear wheel and I saw a bicycle with a 3 speed shifter, I am so curious but have no idea how to find one or what to search for

Back in June I picked up a Marin beach cruiser bike with Nexus three speed for low cost. After changing to a more normal seat and handlebars, I'm planning to use it as my winter bike this year. With all the gears and even the brake inside the rear hub, it should survive winter better than most bikes with caliper brakes and external gears.

Friend from Santiago del Estero Argentina I greet you and congratulate you for your tremendous contribution to those of us who like this sport and understand little about mechanics. I see you more and I admire you more. Hugs and good luck.

Bought a Priority and had it "professionally" assembled and inspected. Besides assembly delays, the front wheel wasn't even aligned with the handlebars. I'm new to bicycling, and that's probably a pretty minor thing since I imagine most people would adjust the saddle and bars anyway, but it made me question what else they missed.

Of course, the bell crank needed a lot of adjustment. Thanks for the quick and concise video, much unlike this comment. 🙂

Great video! World needs helpers like you. I bought a second hand bike and the gears were messed up. Got them fixed thanks to you!

The one I have uses the stamped steel bell crank with a plastic cover that has to come off for adjustment. In your video you can see a black line on the push rod through the window. When that line is even with the end of the axle in second gear you have it right.

I bought an urban bike with nexus 3 last year and I'm so happy with it! I usually do this adjustment every 10 or so rides (I usually commute with it so my rides are always the same).

That was a perfect explanation! I'm back on the road. Thank you.

Nice video dude! Thank you very much for this, it’s very useful. Can you make also a video on how to adjust/service the rear hub and the gears on a batavus internal gear rear hub?

Why don't you do anymore of those bigger overhaul videos? Somehow they don't ever get repetitive and always fun to watch

I trust the Shimano Nexus 3 IGH is, by an order of magnitude, more reliable than the Nexus 7/ 8 IGH Hubs? I can't even even imagjne the Alfine 11s and NuViolo CVTs. If you were building a bike for world wide adventure touring, would you personally trust a ROHLOFF 14 IGH and a PINION 12/18 with a GATES Carbon Belt Drive for foul weather reliabilty? Still prefer traditional cassette geared drivetrain for bulletproof reliability and ease of service? New subscriber here. You disassembly and reassembly of that NEXUS 8 was flippin mind blowing. Def designed by Aliens. That the human mind can conceive, design, and fabricate such a complex device is astounding. Great job!
