This was absolutely, without a doubt, the best explanation and demonstration of this technique I’ve ever seen!! Thank you!

Been doing most of this for 40+ years. But you've given me a nudge over the precipice. Many thanks.

That right hand French grip on both hands explains Billy Cobham’s blazing speed. His strength helped too

dude this is THE BEST example of this i have seen!! *in my words i would say 'the movement focuses on the second hit, the hand feel is ONE motion allowing a looseness to release the first hit (almost like an accident), it is the first hit which is the finesses element and is treated as a "kinetic energy freeby" but the motion is one, and the resolution is the second hit*

Looks like it took 3 years for this to get around to me. I watched the instruction with intense concentration and then the last 15 seconds made my head explode. 🤯. Thanks for this, and thanks for the traditional grip application.

Phil..I’m from Toronto & I saw you playing this way in a drum clinic for Long & Mcquade. You were young! You were heavily influenced by B.R. All I remember is that you had jaw dropping speed and technique!!
That was circa 1982-1983!!!

That is AWESOME!! Unfortunately for me I have a severely damaged right wrist that’s had 9 very intrusive, bone crunching operations on. The initial injury happened back in 1985 when I was 15 years old, I’d only started playing just before it happened. Anyway played in bands etc for years but I could never get these types of techniques down due to the restrictions that my injury and subsequent surgeries had put on me … All the same I love watching these vids with delightful technique being displayed 👊🏻👊🏻
