Your channel is a MUST for gaming enthusiasts. Taking us to places few have ventured. Especially in the way you break it down. Awesome man. Another amazing video!

I learned a lot in this video! Big CRT Tv fan but important to know you can have a nearly indistinguishable experience on most modern HDMI TVs

Great video! I'm a new subscriber! Just a thought, I always thought that the lag in video games, any video games, not just older ones, wasn't caused by HDMI itself but rather the way LCD draws and redraws suddenly moving images.

Nice to hear someone who knows what they are talking about. I've said numerous times that TVs are the main cause for input lag, but people are so stuck into this HDMI lag crap that it's hard to make them understand.

Nice video. I think most people associate HDMI with lag are completely ignoring confounding factors. If your Retro Pie with Blueooth controllers connected to your modern HDMI TV feels laggy compared to original hardware connected to a CRT, the HDMI cable has absolutely nothing to do with this. Heck, even the MiSTer FPGA on default settings can have quite a bit of lag... are you using a bluetooth controller? 2.4GHz dongle? Wired USB? Is fast polling enabled? What value are you using on vsync_adjust? Is your display optimized for gaming of for Bluray / streaming content?

To be fair, that's not people just being ignorant, TV manufacturers will try to make their product look good on marketing material and will often obscure or omit important facts even on the spec sheet. After seeing this happen even in datasheets for integrated circuits I'm not surprised it's even worse for consumer electronics.

And as much as I love my MiSTer, I gotta admit the online documentation can be a bit daunting to read and understand all the relevant details. That's not saying there's anything wrong with it, it's just the nature of the beast: it gives you the power to do lots of cool stuff, but it can go wrong in so many ways, it's no wonder the devs end up making some trade-offs on default configurations to avoid frustrating the most casual users.

Great video, very interesting. Lag has never bothered me aside the sound being slightly out. I have pretty low latency on my big flatscreen telly’s but most of my gaming is on the PVM’s anyway!

You really know your stuff. I would love to have more content about displays since you seem to have a passion for it.

Hey great video!
I wondering though, you said your samsung TV was 720p during the scaling segment of the video, but then we see the TV shows 1080p. Was that a mistake?

This was an awesome video. Straight into the facts. I was just telling my friend about an HDbaseT solution and he was going to game over it. I expressed that I thought it may add <100ms of lag but wasnt sure. This is really interesting to see. Thanks!

You answered the question I had perfectly. I wanted to know if a 25ft or 15ft cable would make a difference for gaming. Now i know. Thank you!

Blessed video. I've been frustrated for years by these myths, but no amount of logic can sway people. Hard data just might!
