I have this old axe that needed a new handle and could not find a replacement that would fit properly, so I decided to try making one in my shop.

I'm impressed. That came out great. You should build yourself an award for that!

Great Job. I wished you had turned the old handle over to match the new. It would show how close in size & shape you made the new handle. Still a nice job!

One way to shape these handles, and it worked beautifully with my very dense fiber oak, is to hook a sanding belt (the longer the better), narrow gauge, 5 cm wide, to a sanding drum that's connected to a drill press or a wood lathe. Hooking the handle on the inside and pulling on it will start the sanding belt, from there it's just a job of controlling where you let it bite and start shaping the handle.

I think I can do this. I have a lady's axe and the handle broke. I have been unable to find a replacement as it is a shorter lighter handle. Thank you for your video.

Wow. Nice job! It looks great. Ash should work just fine for the handle in my opinion. Which dollar store did you get the epoxy at?
