I hate how so many people try to say that Draco DID have a choice. Although we are all entitled to our own opinions, let me just say this. Draco was born is a household where he could never have his own thoughts. His early life was framed by blood purity. His parents injected pureblood ideals into him ever since he was a child. And yes, he did bully people as a teen, but the only reason he did so was because he was lonely..and he didn't know better. His only friends weren't really his friends. He was taught to despise muggleborns and that he was above all because of blood purity. Some people argue that Sirius Black was in a similar position as him, and yet he turned out "good". But let me tell you this. The only common traits they have was that they were both born into a pure blood family. Sirius's parents were never deatheaters, although they embraced blood supremacy. Draco's father, Lucius, at the time of his birth, was very high ranked among Voldemort's death eaters. So naturally, he was injected with more radical views than Sirius. Also, Sirius had friends, while Draco didn't. Don't come at me saying that Crabbed and Goyle are his friends, because they aren't. They were only there for him for his wealth and status. Sirius and James and Lupin, and he actually experienced friendship some point in his life.

Secondly, Draco never chose to be a death eater. When he was first made a death eater, his family was in a dire situation. His father lost favour, locked up in Azkaban. The entire family was in disgrace. Draco, being Lucius's only son had to step up to make up for his father's mistakes. He was sixteen years old. From his mother's words, he was just a boy. Yes, he was spoiled and indulged by his mom, but who deserves such pressure? He knew that if he failed his task, his whole entire family would be murdered. Some people might also argue that why did he refuse Snape's help? The reason is obvious. Draco knew that the dark lord does not forgive easily. He wants Draco to do this, because Draco was Lucius's blood and flesh. Only a Malfoy could make up for a Malfoy's mistake. And we all know what happened after Snape did the killing for him. He was humiliated in his own home, and Voldemort robbed Lucius of his only mean of defense for no big reason.
