Sr20det Rod knock.

Engine was making a knocking sound around 2700 rpms only on acceleration. Long story short. Rod bearing welded itself to the crank. Had crank cut, replaced the one rod only. Re built the bottom end, using same rods and pistons. They were all in spec except the one that the bearing was destroyed. Replaced all other parts. Engines great now. This time added a oil pressure gauge.

If you have this sound its almost certainly a rod bearing. Fix it ASAP or you will regret it. This video saved my red top.

Rod, probably bearing spun on one of the rods, Pull spark plugs 1 by 1, you'll find the problem really fast.. Then pull oil pan and try wiggling the rod around on the bearing, you'll probably find plenty of slack.. Pull it out, Check it for out of roundness with the cap on it, (have a shop check it if you dont have a good digital micrometer, or buy one) As long as you find this problem EARLY, you can usually get away with a new bearing and get back on the road.. But if the surfaces are scratched you'll have to have it either machined and oversized bearings, Or your looking at a new rod & crank

I had the same exact problem and rebuilt my whole head with all brand new parts and put it all back together and still there and then took it back apart to find it was the bearings

If valve or lifter stuck should be make in idle engine speed..
Sound like big end to me..

WOW same thing i have too i can NEVER find out a conclusion i see some with rock knock but this it totaly different sound from a rod knock for sure and i have it to, please let me know what fixes this. i dont want to kill my engine (again)

It was the rod bearing making the noise. Eventually I just beat the engine at high rpms until it locked up. The rod bearing welded itself to the crank. I removed the engine, had the crank cut, installed new over sized bearings.Rebuilt the top and bottom end. Kept the car for 2 more years and Sold the car. I still have a head and tomai head gasket brand new in box, if anyone is interested.

I had that noise on my 92 nx2000, I never thought anything of it, but then the engine lost all power and wouldn't idle anymore

Did you blow it up or did it run strong till you got rid of it?

Its the lifters and also check the shims in the engine. Have you been on the limter lately?

sigh... anyone that thinks this is related to the rotating assembly needs to look up how a damn engine works. Runs to smoothly at low RPMs to be short block related. First thing I would have done was pull of the valve cover and generally inspect everything.

Highly likely something is wrong with the VVT system. Not sure if this is too late or what.
