I think the hardest wall about streaming is just that initial streams when you are streaming to literally nobody and Max nails it on the head. You don't have a chat to bounce off of and communicate so you're just a crazy person talking to no one. Once you can slowly build that core community even if it stays small you can feel like you made it. Then you just wait for a "big fish" to notice you and toss you raids or collabs. It may sound negative, but I don't think it's possible to break out of the "small" pool without some crazy luck/help. Don't go in expecting to be a big fish, really ever. Just have fun.

Streaming for the first time about 2 weeks ago, this was insanely relatable & something I didn’t know I needed to hear so badly lol. I find myself agreeing with most everything ESPECIALLY the fact about each stream being a special event. Cultivating a community of people who like what you like, but also genuinely engaging with your audience. I found myself in a flow state while streaming and at that point everything felt so much better. Streaming is really something special, nothing quite else like it.

As someone who has recently been really trying to foster a community here on YouTube, this is all really helpful. Watching Max for over a decade now, everything he has said here resonates so much. Anyone who wants to break into this environment wants to do the same thing: foster a community of people who like the same things you do. Over the last year, I got VERY lucky and had some videos I’ve made reach a lot of different people. But even now, I hurts to know I that what I make can reach a lot of people and they don’t. But don’t get discouraged! It’s really fun to edit and make something and tell a story. To anyone who wants to do this in any capacity, don’t give up, have fun and make something you are proud of and would want to see on this platform or twitch. Cheers!

The thing is. So far in my life I've only encountered 3 YouTubers that I absolutely love for being themselves and staying true to their audience, and you Max are one of them along with Vsause and MrGSTAR321. No joke, lies or whatever. You're a humble, kind, pure, honest man who enjoys his life, spends his time wisely with his audience and with his family, you ignore toxicity as much as possible and you maintain a healthy relationship with every person that you know. We love you Max for who you are and we will always do. Never change. You are a kind hearted soul who deserves a peaceful life along with your family! Never give up ❤️

"You have to find out who you are, " might be the most important advice I hope others take away. I've tried streaming just random stuff here and there but found out I can't properly convey or just am very uncomfortable talking about what's going through my mind or what makes this thing I'm broadcasting cool to me. It's something I'm still trying to work on but I think time away from the screen and finding out exactly how you wanna go about taking up this hobby, whether through trial and error or planning, is a huge factor in whether or not you can feel comfortable trying to make that connection to a potential audience.

As somebody who has and continues to treat YouTube like a job despite it not being one, this video really spoke to me and helped me out. I think it's far too easy to forget that early on, we're all out here doing this for fun, and when we tunnel-vision in on the numbers, and we start to spend a lot of money on upgraded equipment we don't truly need yet, we lose sight of the things that truly help you grow, like getting comfortable behind a mic, and focusing on making content that you enjoy.

Thank you for this! Getting your name out there is one of the hardest things to do but my passion will prevail!

I needed this...i'm taking a hiatus from streaming since i'm about as small as i can get. It's tough for me to handle mostly talking to dead air and having little to no viewers. I'm waiting for certain games to come out so i can share them with people and maybe find an audience like you said. Streaming for me needs to remain a hobby since i don't know when or if I could make it a reasonable stream of income.

Thank you for this Max, seriously. Needed to hear this.

OH MY GOD! What are the odds?! I was watching Max's Shenmue stream and he lightly touched in this subject because of a viewer and what he says here is pretty closely related to what he said back then. Damn Max, glad to see you didn't changed much.

As a small twitch streamer myself, thank you for all of this! You don't realize how many people this is gonna help

I remember those old streams. It was really unusual. Especially for the time. You have definitely been the model for how to evolve a channel over time. As someone who has a channel but has never had the money or time to grow the way you did. I was always SO IMPRESSED with what you were doing. Today, I'm most impressed by how much content you still do even with a family.

Been streaming for 2 years and I 100% agree with everything max says, I'm still pretty small atm but I've been loving the experience of sharing games I love with people.

I’ve recently started streaming here on YouTube and its been fun with the people who have popped in. I’m just using my console and having fun but maybe one day I’ll have a nice set up like Max. For now I’m just having fun and enjoying playing games that I like.

Thanks to Max for sharing this advice!! Shine on!

Keep it up!!! I started following this channel for a long time… and it never cease to impress me the way Max and the crew behave in front of the camera… it’s natural and honest. Frustrations, happy moments everything that makes part of their life, is present in the videos. I always remember the fundraiser event that you did for a funeral for a streamer and how you inspire people so the intended money was achieved in less than 3 hours… that shiet, makes me think this channel is worth

I've been watching you for a long time Max, and I've grown up with fighting games. I used to stream in the past and I still plan to in the near future, but sometimes life often gets in the way. Time management for streaming takes a lot of, well, time and dedication. You made me realize I don't need to really upgrade my equipment for the games I already enjoy.

Another thing I've always wanted to do was be a commentator/tournament host, so I might think on doing this for the future.

Thank you for this video max. For you being someone that I've looked up to and the reason why I started streaming in the first place. This video really reassures me that I can do it I just have to keep grinding and working on making sure that I'm putting out good content. Stay positive and thank you dood 👍🏾🙏🏾
