Animal Farm by George Orwell chapter 6, narrated by Isaac Birchall
The animals work like never before, trying their hardest to not only produce enough food for themselves, but to build the windmill too. The Pigs soon announce that Working on Sundays will be voluntary, but animals that refuse will have their rations reduced by half. The Animals go along with this however, trusting the pigs when they say "It is better now than in Jones' time," though not many of them can actually remember what it was like.
The farm possesses all of the tools that are needed to create the windmill, but several problems arise when they animals go to quarry the stone; none of the animals can use a pick, and they thus have to think of a new way to break the stones. After a good amount of thought, the animals decide that they need to roll the large rocks to the top of a hill, and drop them onto the hard stone floor of the quarry below to break them. This is seriously hard work, but by the end of the summer, they have smashed enough rocks to start building.
They start the construction, but alas more problems arrive. The pigs will need nails, iron, and paraffin oil. They cannot produce these on the farm, and they will be thus forced to break another tenant of Animal Farm by trading with Humans...
