How to setup Raspberry Pi to datalog input from arduino over usb

I had a request to flesh out how I used my Raspberry Pi to datalog an analog input from an Arduino . Here is an attempt to show all the steps I needed to take to accomplish the task. Also, here are links to all the things I needed:

Assistance please.
Nicely explained method of getting data saved to my RPi. Getting data stored nicely for 8 temperature sensors, light sensor, battery voltage, humidity, relay state and atmospheric pressure.


I'd like to restart the script at a fixed interval, creating a filename, in a specified directory, based on the date/time stamp, and then record for a fixed period, before starting a new file.



Do you (or anyone else) have any information on how I might edit the grabserial code to achieve this, or point me to somewhere else. Reasonably new to python and raspberry pi and mostly get by by hacking things that seem to achieve the desired result.
