Yeah we loved Lombok way more than Bali when we went last year, Bali was just too chaotic and seemed to be a lot worse than what we were expecting. Ended up staying about 8 days in Kuta Lombok and we had only planned 2-3 nights. Was so awesome jumping on the scooter everyday on those empty smooth roads and exploring new beaches each day a long the southern coast. So many awesome cliff beaches ❤️

If one day Lombok is crowded, there is still sumbawa and if it's crowded too, then the next big hit is Flores, then lembata, then alor then wetar... It is endless. All beautiful

I used to hang out in Lombok in the early 1980s...first time I went to Gili Air, there were 8 tourists, no electricity or running water, and we slept in huts on the beach. Sengiggi had one place to stay. When I used to hang out in Ubud in Bali (1980), there were 2 places to stay and it cost about $2 a night, no street lights, no restaurants or banks, and nowhere to go at night. Times have changed.

Hope to get back there someday. And still regret that, living 3 month in Indonesia only a few days was at Lombok.

Just watched the full video - could not agree more with what you've said about Bali and how it's become very built up and polluted. I made a video about two years ago covering this and how I fell in love with Lombok because it gave me the things that I was expecting to find in Bali. What I didn't plan for was that this video has now got almost 400k views and in some ways, I worry that I'm going to be responsible for the 'downfall' of Lombok haha. Lots of people's comments have told me as much.

I'm going back there this year for the long term and I'm hoping to spread a message about sustainable tourism that doesn't completely ruin or whitewash the beauty of the island. It's definitely on the way to that tipping point

As a person who lives in lombok since day 1, Bali is much more advance and lombok is pretty calm and not that advanced its also much cheaper and a bit more dirty. but if you want a quiet place and not that full, its sumbawa, the island next to lombok
