I never seen a cop publicly apologized for a false arrest.

THIS, is how all police should be. Kudos. No excuses, pure apology.

Nice of him to try and make it right. Most departments would not have a press conference, they'd blame the victim.

"Innocent until proven guilty" does not exist if a single false accusation can destroy your entire life.

As an employer, dismissing someone so quickly before they have even been to court is reprehensible.

This is how you MAN UP. More PD's need to take this as an example.

Why did the city fire him if he is presumed innocent until proven guilty? I'd sue for that.

He still needs to sue everybody involved 😂😂😂

This should be the standard of police behavior instead of doubling down and covering your ass. Thank you for admitting your mistakes publicly. This is how you will regain my faith in police

Mistakes like this happen far more than the average person realizes. The fact that this sheriff is making his apology public is what's unusual.

I really appreciate that there was a public apology in front of the press and not just some press release.

This is a Sheriff I'd work for, honest and humble. This was something he didn't have to do, but did to set the record straight. Good man.

A lot of respect to this sheriff and his department. Taking accountability is something sorely missed in this day and age.

He apologizes, then puts the fact that the "innocent" guy has been clean for three years, out there. He put the man on blast again. He ensured that the entire community knows that the man was involved with drugs in the past. Then he preaches about second chances, after greatly diminishing that dudes second chance of a normal life. What an absolutely botched apology.
