Fury vs. Tiger: Did the Logs Make a Difference? WRONG! This movie scene might be epic, but the science says otherwise. Find out why Fury's logs wouldn't stop an 88mm shell! #fury #tankbattle #moviemyths #ww2

I attributed that shot to the angle of impact, meaning the round bounced just didn't show it well in movie. Also, Fury had a 76mm long barrel high velocity cannon not the 75 short barrel, the 76mm would have penetrated the Tiger I's UFP no problem. In reality, Fury would have been the first Sherman the Tiger would have targeted.

Also the logs were used for heavy mud, when the tank got stuck they’d put them underneath the treads for traction

The Fury would be dead in that film by the time the Tiger spotted them.

Real life equivalent of volume-metric in War Thunder

The logs were primarely used to help the tank cross muddy terain. The protection they provided was only an additional benefit

Most unrealistic scene of the movie by far

You've got to remember, the Fury tank commander was a reincarnation of Achilles, the almost unstoppable hero of the Trojan war. The only reason Fury was beat, a mine took out the rear track wheel...as Achilles had an arrow go into his leg. 😂🤣🤣🤠

The logs didn’t deflect the shot, it penetrated. you see in the next transition that they took damage and lost the ability to mechanically traverse the turret and resort to manual cranking
The tiger just didn’t hit a lethal spot, which did happen occasionally back then

I love how you can clearly see that tiger 131 had multiple opportunities to kill fury but magically failed every time

The Fury was a 76 Sherman so it could kill a tiger 1 pretty easily but in reality that tiger woulda never moved out of its spot and Fury woulda been the first tank to die so the only other tanks left would be stuck behind and they would be the less powerful M4A1 (75) Sherman’s

They didn’t need to get behind the tiger to kill it. That Sherman had a gun that could punch through its frontal armor

It is also possible that High Explosive was use by the Tiger

I love that they actually did their best to make models of accurate tanks

That’s what I initially thought when I first saw the scene is that the shell passed through so cleanly through its armor and it luckily missed anything important but nope, logs.💀

That scene looked like they were using energy blasters from star wars or star trek

The logs were also used to enhance trajectory when maximizing range during indirect fire missions. Gun elevation on tanks is limited.

Oh what would happen to the logs?

Incinirated.

They were using logs as spaces armor against chemical energy shells, but not only, logs can be used for many other things with tanks.

Well, depending on what shell the tiger used, it could have just gone right through as the USA had metal that was strong yet soft enough for that to happen. It's also why the soviets liked the Sherman one got hit by an anti-tank, and the worst that happened was a big hole, and they could easily repaire it, and that's what they did
