I would be more afraid of having to share the property with siblings. Problems and fights will ensue about who can stay when, who done the most work, who spent the most money on it, and who's children will get the property when they pass

Technically, it could be "opting" out of the inheritance. I think what the family is saying that if the other siblings went for the deal to help mom and dad out and this couple did not, then when mom and dad pass away, don't expect to receive anything from mom and dad, especially the lake house.

There are many people who buy lake houses and regret it because of how much cash it ties up and the expenses.

Renting is the way to go for many people. If they want money so badly, they should sell that lake house as the prices are sky high anyways.

His other two siblings can’t afford it without them splitting it three ways. That’s why they’re mad. “But it’s such a small amount” lol. Ya and they live 10 hours from the house. I wouldn’t pay a monthly payment on a lake house for my siblings to use either.

Everyone wants great relations with all of their family members. But, sometimes, that’s just not possible.

Expect nothing from other family members. If you expect something and don't get it, your feelings are hurt, so don't expect.

You don't want to get involved in that anyway. When siblings purchase something together it causes family rifts. This sibling wants to do this to the house, but these siblings don't want to do it or pay for it. My brother in law is going through this right now.
