Randy Crawford - Street Life - 1979

I play the streetlife, because there`s no place I can go
Streetlife - it`s the only life I know
Streetlife - and there`s a thousand parts to play
Streetlife - until you play your life away

You let the people see, just who you wanna be
And every night you shine, just like a super star
That`s how the life is played a ten cent masquerade
You dress, you walk, you talk
You`re who you think you are

Streetlife - you can run away from time
Streetlife - for a nickel or a dime
Streetlife - but you better not get old
Streetlife - or you`re gonna feel the cold

There`s always love for sale a grown-up fairytale
Prince charming always smiles behind a silver spoon
And if you keep it young your song is always sung
Your love will pay your way beneath the silver moon

Streetlife - Streetlife
Streetlife - Streetlife

I play the streetlife, because there`s no place I can go
Streetlife - it`s the only life I know
Streetlife - and there`s a thousand parts to play
Streetlife - until you play your life away - ooh

OMG...i was 17 years old. I can remember combing my hair & looking in the mirror at this young beautiful guy with his whole life in front of him...Its a trick, one moment your young, 5 minutes later your in your 50's....

Why do almost none of my generation like this music? It's beautiful. I got lucky, I grew up on this, and I'm grateful for it!

For me, this song is quintessential New York on a late night, which is part of why I love it so much

18 June 2021, I’m in the shower washing my hair, the chorus comes to mind, had to go down this rabbit hole! My mother had the best ears, she introduced me to the best music at a young age!

tight musicianship as always from the incomparable Crusaders.Stix Hooper, Joe Sample and Wilton Felder, Larry Carlton.
thats the cream of session musicians right there, respected and admired by every top act.
Randy's emotional voice tops it off.
quality.

How can anyone not adore the fine raw soul jazz overlay, with the great arrangement of strings, percussion, guitar & horns that continually push this mighty tune along?

Mmmmm.... takes me back to my early teens in 1979 when I sat up one night hearing this song for the first time played on the local jazz radio station.    Forever incredibly awesome music from Randi Crawford and The Crusaders.

Some great classics here. Love mix with funk and that 70's flavor. CLASSIC!

I was only 6 y/o at this time. This song brings back memories of me riding home in the car with mom after her night shift. The radio would play ballads and R&B jams. This song would relax me and put me to sleep.
