Pope Francis: 'Who Am I to Judge' Gays?

"As they settled into their seats on the Alitalia jet, the assembled members of the Vatican press corps might not have expected a great deal from the journey home.

They had just followed the Catholic church's first Latin American pope on a meet and greet around Brazil."*

Is Pope Francis shedding new hope on the Catholic church? In a distinctly tolerant tone, the pope said, "Who am I to judge?" adding that the Church should not marginalize people based on integration. Will the religious-right now go against the pope? Cenk Uygur discusses.

As a Catholic myself, I find it strange that there's so much focus on homosexuality and sins and judging others among those of my religion...
If you look at Jesus' teachings, most of what he preached was about loving your neighbor, being charitable, and not looking down on or judging others..
IMO too many people just use religion as an excuse to fuel their ego and holify themselves... which is ironic as that in particular is something Jesus preached against, multiple times at that...

I go to an Anglican school (I am atheist, but it has the best education). Not once have I ever heard anyone mention hell, or satan, or who is going to hell etc. In our sex ed. class, not only are we taught straight sex ed but we are also taught what it means to be gay, lesbian, bi, pan, asexual, trans etc. We are taught that on average 1 in 10 identify as LGBT+ and it isn't something anyone can change, and it's fine who ever you like. One our our prefects is openly bi, and everyone loves her. I was talking to someone people in my class the other day about our religious beliefs, and one was muslim, the other wasn't religious but said "I go to this school, and to an anglican church because I love the people. I can practice singing, I can practice my public speaking skills by doing prayers,  I can help out the numerous charities they support and I can make tea for the old people." Religion can be kind and set an amazing example, republicans just don't want it to.

Funny how the nonbelievers are all enamoured with this Pope.  I have doubts about any Christian leader who earns the support of those who are detractors from the faith, detractors who have no intention to change their ways.

Why do they give all of the credit to imaginary beings?
The pope's a good guy because he's a good guy.

In this respect, Pope Francis is Biblically sound. Jesus himself said that he wouldn't reject anyone who came to him, even if they were part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The pope has NO power to judge ANYONE since he is a sinner, too.  THE WORD of GOD, THE BIBLE is THE JUDGE of all.  GOD condemns a sin of homosexuality in HIS HOLY WORD.

"You need to follow your creed to the letter of the law, without cherry picking a single verse over another."
That's not even possible.
The book itself is full of contradictions, they have to do that, because if you read it as it is it doesn't make any sense.

Why would anyone witnessing him NOT writing about it?
I mean, you go around walking on water and bringing people back to life, and it takes decades after you death for someone to say "oh, well, let's write about the guy".
If anything, the 4 gospels don't even agree to each other, and not about some random day, about the day of his resurrection...how can anybody take that book seriously anyway...

Same thing for the word "atheist", it was an insult.
Same thing for the "big bang", that was the little name they give to MOCK the theory.
Point is, it's 2013, we use the words with the meaning we give them today.

Yeah, but ignorance is not an argument.
Doesn't matter how many comments you write or what you think.
Homosexuality always existed and will exist forever, either you deal with it or not. It's natural, as observed in 1500 animal species, as stated by the W.H.O. and the A.P.A. ...and "vansera7" is not going to change it...so...

I find this man an inspiration. Next to Gandhi, a man who comes from such a strict and narrow up bringing, but still managing to find acceptance and even embrace the differences of others is a spark of the true good of humanity.

"Jesus was..."
Stop right there.
Last time I checked, there was no "Jesus" in history books, so I wouldn't even start making an argument based on what he was, since we don't even know if he ever existed.

Don't call you faith without evidence "understanding". When you pick faith instead of reason you are doing the opposite of "understanding".
And don't put your insecurities on me, I don't believe in your god because I don't have reasons to, so come down from the podium of your self-given superiority, thanks.

" the portraits of Jesus constructed in these quests have often differed from each other, and from the dogmatic image portrayed in the gospel accounts", yet you want to make an argument based on the magic Jesus described in the bible.
Sorry, perhaps some guy with that name existed, but we don't know a single word he said, just tales about him.

thank you so much for your kind reply brother. i am currently studying in the UK and to be honest, i feel much more pleased when i talk to a christian than an atheist. at the end, we both believe in god and all depends on how much we worship the god and how well we treat other people. regarding your saying that we belive differently, actually, islam and christianity share many aspects like 1- beliveing in god 2- beliveing in prophets 3- hereafter 4- fasting 5-headscarf 6- Blesses
