I'm not a beginner to MGFX, nor Resolve from an Editor and Colorist perspective, I'm actually pretty seasoned in my career. But I never really dove deeply into Fusion.

If I sit and focus on the workflow, I can grasp the process fairly well, but there's something negatively visceral to my common understanding of how to think about building up assets in a given project in Fusion.

Prior to deeper thought on this subject, there was a friction point that turned me off to Fusion, and now I think I know why.

It's not a node workflow, I use and understand the concepts of nodes inside Maya, UE, emberGen, etc. I think in terms of Resolve/Fusion, it's the "merger" node. I don't understand why this is an explicit step in the process, when in the color page once you connect the output to the input of a proceeding serial (or other) node its already "merged" under the hood, without explicit input from the user. It just works logically. Also, why can't there be transform properties inherent in all node types? If you don't need to capture any translations on a particular node, just don't touch those properties. I feel like anything BMD can do to simplify and cleanup the process, so there isn't a gazillion nodes on your screen for things that should just employ basic logic (merge) and basic tools (transform) would make working in Fusion far more approachable to beginners and seasoned old twats, like myself.

I think in the meantime, I need to engross myself with getting more solidified with merging. Annoying.

I just followed along with this tutorial, made a few mistakes, but thanks to the narration and clear screen recording was able to find and fix my mistakes and achieve the final goal! Thank you ever so much for making these excellent tutorials. Now off to try and replicate all this WITHOUT looking back at the video (and perhaps using different shapes) ...

I didn't really understand the part at 15:14. Why we didn't put the stransform node after the actual coffee shape in order to contract the edges of it but instead of this we inserted the stransform node after the cup shape? What's the difference?

I’m only 1/4 of the way through the video and I am already so thankful you made this video. Thank you so much for what you do!

Hey Casey that was super useful! I think using shapes will save time. Just on the issue of the polygon ends still showing when you reduce length to zero, if you change the border style to flat from rounded you won't have that problem. So saves some time of using other workarounds.

I'm a complete noob but just came across that issue before so thought it might be helpful!

Very nice video. What I would like to know is, how could I make this dynamic to reuse it in other projects? Like I can, when I buy a videovfx package. So, I create this thing ones and can change the attribues on the colors for example or the text values. Thanks.

"Your video is absolutely great, and I have a question. At 14:11, there is an option 'keep' in style mode, but I don't have it in my DaVinci. Can you help me?"

Doing all the key frames all at once and tweaking the timing ar the end is a vert good worflow i reckon. Thank you so much❤

Your videos are great!! I just have a question. I noticed you can change the height & width of the sRectangle with the cursor on the shape itself. I can't seem to be able to do this, is there a setting or something that might be set wrong. On regular shapes I can, but just not with the sRectangle. Any suggestions would help. Thanks..

Great helpful tutorial. thank you. i am doing this tutorial using 1.8(paid version) and i realize the differences between 1.8 and 1.9. i cant resize the rectangle on the fusion page. there is no option on boolean to choose "keep" 14:10. so i just change width and height. right now i wont upgrade because i dont want to miss 100 of great plugins

Hi, I'm probably late so this comment might go unnoticed, but I have a question.

In this video you made your own artwork with the shapes. But when you don't have the time or skills to create the artwork yourself, you are left with the other option: importing artwork. You have a video on your channel that deals with importing SVG's, but when you're dealing with a complex artwork with many layers made in a Vector Art program, you end up importing a SVG that holds THOUSANDS of nodes containing merges, bg's, paths... It's impossible to work with if you want to animate the different layers you had in your vector art program. Is this a shortcoming of DVR? Is it simply not made for working with artworks in this way? Or am I missing something?

Hope my question is clear, if not let me know!

Awesome video - just what I was looking for! Thanks Casey.
Suggestion for a future video: Tips/Tricks for organizing your Node layouts so your fusion comp doesn't look like the flight path of every aircraft in N. America.

Thank you. I’ve learnt a lot from this. One question though, the coffee looked a much darker brown in fusion than when it was back on the edit page. Is this because of the quirks of Fusion and RCM?
