Dirty, Hot and Miserable 🙃.. sailing the MOST Biologically Diverse Place in the World (Ep143 )

Cruising Costa Rica epitomizes the old saying that cruising is full of high, highs and low, lows. Almost a bipolar existence. We are blown away by the beauty of the Osa Peninsula. Covering an area of just 700 square miles on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the Peninsula is estimated to house 2.5% of the biodiversity of the entire world – while covering less than a thousandth of a percent of its total surface area – making it by definition, the most biologically intense place on earth. We see white-faced capuchin monkeys, Scarlett macaws, like the ones we saw in Golfito - and hundreds of other birds, reptiles, insects and plants, trees and flowers along this hike.

The flips side to this amazing location is the sailing side of the equation. We face rolly anchorages, not much breeze and treacherous dinghy landings in order to access the shore. All this makes us wonder if a trip to Costa Rica would be better by land rather than on a boat 🙃. Watch and let us know what you think?

Grace, your enthusiasm for the details of the environment is infectious! Like all of the other commentors, now I want to visit the Osa Peninsula. Bill, I appreciate your attention to each challenge the nautical life presents. Your support of each other is a great model. Thank you. We all are glad to hear your health is improving. Peace, Sockeye

What a beautifully diverse country! But those rolly polly anchorages, I'd have trouble with that🙃 You almost need to get a slip, rent a cabin, secure transportation for a few weeks, see the country, satisfy that fix, get back to the boat and move on. And that gets expensive ha. Glad to hear you guys are feeling better. Boat show is not far off, you must be flying in. I'm staying with friends that secured a house in Annapolis. Nice. Be well my friends😊

One of your most beautiful video's yet. Was surprised at the change in the river. Hard to imagine you navigated around that huge rock just a short time before.

I have some great memories of my time in Costa Rica. Went in the late 70s as a teenager. It was so incredible. Mountains, rain forest, beaches, the wildlife. Truly unforgettable.

Terrific video! For nature lovers it can't get any better than that trail. I put that on my list of destinations when I first saw it on Garry & Brooke's video.. You're helping me realize that its probably worth dealing with the local bureaucracy to see such an amazing ecosystem.

That green exotic item is called a calabash. Its not a fruit. When its fully grown you cut it in half clean out the stuff inside and put the two outer parts to dry it will turn brown. It can be used as a bowl to eat from or you can use it as a water container also.

Once again I learned a lot from you. I have no idea which way to travel might be better, but the pictures and your smile seem a reward for all your efforts and the seasickness - and by the way how many travelers might have crossed that bridge after a night cruising under it via dinghy with a cold one in their hands :-) keep on!
