Collapsed Lung - Causes, Symptoms, Treatments & More…

A collapsed lung happens when air enters the pleural space, the area between the lung and the chest wall. If it is a total collapse, it is called pneumothorax. If only part of the lung is affected, it is called atelectasis.

Causes of a collapsed lung include

Lung diseases such as pneumonia or lung cancer
Being on a breathing machine
Surgery on the chest or abdomen
A blocked airway
If only a small area of the lung is affected, you may not have symptoms. If a large area is affected, you may feel short of breath and have a rapid heart rate.

A chest x-ray can tell if you have it. Treatment depends on the underlying cause.

I have it. Watched this. Went toget an x-ray. And my left lung has indeed collapsed. It wasn't too painful. It feels lke you have a sharp chip in your chest. And your back hurts.

Omgosh. I had a collapsed lung after a minor surgery ( my spleen was imbedded in my left lung ) followed by aa serious surgery, my diaphragm ruptured. Honesty Im blessed to be alive. .... Oh yes you will know, you wont be able to breathe well, as well as pain.

My right lung partially collapsed years ago due to several things, SEVERE ASTHMA, paralysis of the right diaphragm & a mucus plug. feeling my lung collapse as I breathed was very unpleasant I didn't know It was at the & never got help. If I have those systems again I'm going to the ER.

Pretty sure my lung collapsed I can’t breathe in deep very well and have had this horrible sharp deep pain in my left lung which gets worse when I breathe randomly. Im also experiencing a popping sensation and almost wet rubbery feeling when I bed over. Everything just fee so uncomfortable in my left chest and it’s quite scary. I’ve had had this once before so I’m almost positive that’s what I have now. I’m upset it came back after so many years and so suddenly too



Edit: It was not a collapsed lung but it was pneumonia which is what led to my collapsed lung (when I was younger). But please if you have shortness of breath and trouble going anywhere without having trouble breathing please immediately go to the ER they can help you get better. Don’t wait even if you’re scared!

My 6 yo daughter had a collapsed lung and Covid she passed away in March, the doctors decided to let her come her come home even after they told me she had a collapsed lung this shit is not nothing to play with rip Bella I miss you everyday I’m traumatized 💔😓

I had my left lung completely collapse after a surgery I had when I was 11. I had to stay on a breathing machine and was transferred to a bigger hospital. They decided against operating because I was so young and instead kept me on an oxygen machine 24/7 and gave me a physio therapist who had this weird like breathing contraption you had to blow into and move a counter up to help my lung inflate again. I have no idea how it works

Idk if I have one but I was doing my usual eating food (particularly a ham sandwich) after I took a couple bites my breathing felt different and felt like I have a shortness of breath ever since I've had it for 7 or 6 years now and this was back in 2014 and my mom tried to help then we went to a hospital and shit but like I still have it and if I ever thing about my breathing itll like do something like feel like something's in my throat
