We had a guy who used to use the ambulance as a taxi after a night out, as they're free here in the UK. He lived just around the corner from our hospital and would be brought into our ED, but would discharge himself before we could even triage him properly.

So we told ambulance control.

The next time he called, they took him to the hospital at the opposite end of their patch - a 90 minute drive away.

Weirdly, he didn't do it again... 😂😎👍

One of my friends lives way up in the mountains, and when her mother missed the hayloft ladder and fell, she told dispatch that a Flight for Life would be needed, like when a rock climber falls (which is disturbingly common out here). They kept saying an ambulance would be there soon, and finally she said, “My fifty-five year old mother fell out of a fourteen foot tall hayloft, the horses are very distressed, and she says she can’t feel her left leg. The roads out here are unpaved, unmarked, clogged with snow. We need the helicopter!”
Their address has since been flagged as ‘air lift recommended’. They are waaay up there!

I drove a tow truck and we regularly worked on-scene with paramedics trying to deal with a bad wreck. We'd hear stories like this all the time. They had one guy who was too fat to walk who regularly would call an ambulance to got to a particular hospital, that just so happened to be across the street from an all you can eat buffet. They'd get him out of the ambulance, into a wheel chair, of which most all were powered, and as soon as no one was paying attention the guy would head out the door and to the buffet. Then he'd ride the wheel chair home. When he died, he had 7 power chairs, and 11 ride on shopping carts behind his house that he used for transportation at some point.
Never underestimate how low someone will stoop to save a buck or get over on the system.

I had one of those powered shopping carts sitting in front of my house for a year from a local store, when I called them to tell them where it was, they told ME to bring it back. I called the police, they pushed it off the street onto my lawn and left. Its been rotting in my scrap pile now for 10 years.
