Im 69, and had my first one at 50, i got a small bottle of liquid at the drug store and put it in a glass of Sprite and it took carr of everything. 10 years later i do it again and it involves gallons of pink liquid, and I asked about how easy it was before and i was told the contents of that small bottle was taken off the martet because too many people were using it to loose weight. My question was why couldn't that product become a prescription and get it that way?

The prep is what discourages most people from doing it. If only they could find a simpler procedure, similar to colon irrigation that requires minimal prep, more people would take the examination.

If you have a hiatal hernia or GERD/reflux, the prep is especially hard.

Note to oblivious docs: It's not the drinking, it's what the drinking does to the other end. Exhausting, and for some older folks, dangerous dehydration and depletion of electrolytes. You're solving the wrong problem.

It’s not the “take” portion that is the problem with the prep. It is the “go” portion that is the worst

I just had a colonoscopy in October & they found Appendix cancer & I had that removed a month later along with 6” of my colon & my bowel. It was caught early because I have them once a year & mine was staged 2-1A. I saw my oncologist & he said cancers of zero to 2-1A do not require chemotherapy or radiation. The surgery is the procedure plus the surgeon was very thorough in checking 78 lymph nodes. I will need follow up every 6 months. I feel like I dodge a huge missile aimed right at my head! I started having colonoscopies at age 47 after my father died of colon cancer. I have been going frequently & so far so good until this last time at age 60.

I had my first colonoscopy here in Greece a couple of months ago. My prep consisted of two packs of powder which I mixed with water, one the evening before the procedure and one the morning of. I was able to eat a light breakfast and lunch the day before. It worked for me!

Metforman is a heart attack risk and fell out of favor with my granny’s Dr. He pulled my granny off of it years ago.

A routine colonoscopy discovered a stage 1 malignant tumor and saved my life. I always take the Miralax mixed with Gatorade prep which is very effective and only takes a few hours to finish the job.

Prep is the worse, the procedure is like 1/2hr. Quick asf, and they definitely need to lower the age for ppl to be screened. Ppl at 40 start getting screened, lie if u have to and tell them it’s runs in ur family, it can save ur life. I think it should change to 35 ppl younger and younger are getting bowel/intestinal/colon cancer probably so much shyt they put in the food and the FDA turns a blind eye to, and they still haven’t changed age requirements.

Take the test. I had no family history but my doctor said I could be the 1st. Well, I'm the 1st. Having colectomy surgery next week.

My hubby was getting a colonoscopy every 5 years, the doctor did not see his full colon but did not let him know, the next time he went back the Dr said he had a cancer in the colon in which he died 5 months later. If the Dr's are negligent there is nothing you can do, your life will not be saved if you do the right thing

I understand the horror of Prep, just the thought of Gatorade makes me sick now. I threw up it up the last time. But...do it, find a Prep you can tolerate because the actual exam is not really that bad and could save your life

I have tons of Chronic GI issues and believe it or not with the GI pain I usually have, the Prep was not that bad. Just down the Suprep liquid not pills in two separate rounds totalling 96 fluid ounces and roto rooter two rounds as well and you are done. Personally, I am more concerned about the colonoscopy/endoscopy procedure versus the prep.

I had my second one 4-1/2 years ago, just used magnesium citrate to do the prep. Getting a ride home afterward was an issue, so as a workaround for that I opted for it to be done with no sedation.
