I appreciate you acknowledging that you may be using terms that could cause some people to feel uncomfortable. I think this was very considerate and conscientious of you. I see someone make a comment about you apologizing for using medical terms but as a medical professional myself I understand that you never know how a person may react .

Thank you for your Kegel talk. People don’t like to talk about it but it needs to be addressed. Kegel exercise really works. Your sense of humor to me is great.

As a lady, I highly recommend women go see a pelvic floor physical therapist rather than just doing kegels. We often have muscles that are too tight that need to relax before we can gain control of our urine. If you contract muscles that are already too tight, you can hurt yourself and make it worse. Get an exam and have your exercises customized to your situation.

It might be awkward to talk about or let someone examine what's going on, but it is so worth it.

The things I learned from my physical therapist also helped reduce my pain from endometriosis.

Ladies, I am you, go make an appointment for this! Don't try to struggle through on your own.

Such a common issue and we unfortunately don’t talk about it enough, or it’s shrugged off as a “normal” part of having kids or aging. Many people don’t know there is something you can do about it! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Getting beyond professionals who apologize for using bodily terms, this is very helpful information. I was told about the Kegel Method but apparently was told how to do it incorrectly. Thank you for the explanation. It was very helpful.

Hey Bob and Brad! I visited my osteopathic doctor today. I sent him an email a week or so ago bragging about you two. Guess what he said today. You two are his go-to guys for patients like me who don't have covered physical therapy with their insurance. Stupid. Doctors either want to throw a pill at it or cut it. Nothing in between. Stupid. He actually pulled you up on his computer. I don't know if he actually tells patients about you, but I think he watches you and gets ideas to help his patients who can't have PT. You guys are great!

Been doing kegels for 40 years. Still had menopause related incontinence. HRT has helped, but that isn't a permanent solution. Hoping once my menopause symptoms settle, that will too.

Thank you for being so specific. It's difficult to isolate the correct muscles when you can't picture the specifics. I needed to know; but, please forgive me, I really enjoyed watching Brad squirm!

I've had urge incontinence for several years and it's gotten worse aa I've aged. It is frustrating! I'm sharing my story here in case it helps anyone else.

I've take terazosin (aka Hytrin) to relax me, as one urologist once said [serious eye roll], "down there" which I guess is my prostate, but I honestly don't know. I had a TUMT in 2004 which went badly and since then I've gad to take Ditripan (generic oxybutynin), for overactive bladder to help with the urgency. It sort of helps, but it doesn't stop the incontinence at all.

I had to start wearing pads about a year ago as the condition got worse. One afternoon I was standing outside with a friend when I felt urine running down my leg and had absolutely no sensation of urine passing through my penis. That's when I started using pads. Men's guards, a sort of triangular shaped pad that adheres to the inside of fitted underwear such as jockey shorts or boxer briefs which I wear.

I will just start peeing, and I got sick of doing pants and underwear laundry so frequently. I've recently had a TURP so now I can empty my bladder easily and pretty thoroughly. I've been measuring my output, and it's around 250-275 mls per urination. I just read that the first urge to go comes at around 240 mls of urine in the bladder. When I reach the 250 stage, I have just a minute or so to get to a toilet before I start urinating.

I'm going to work diligently on Kegels. I looked up pelvic floor muscles to better understand what Kegels are doing. I hope that helps me.

Guys, do yourself a favor. Learn the medical terms for your genitals and don't be afraid to tslk to your doctor about this problem or frequent urination. By all mesns get a yearly PSA blood test and a digital rectal exam to ensure you DO NOT HAVE PROSTATE CANCER, the 2nd leading causes of death in men! Being embarrassed about dropping your pants and catching a finger in your butt can kill you! GET OVER IT! How many brave things have you done in your life? Tons? Make this one of them! Remember that doctors do DREs on a daily basis. They do not care about your butt, and a DRE is not gay or gonna make you gay! Trust me! I'm gay and I bloody hate them, but they are so necessary.

Prostate cancer may not show up with either a DRE or a PSA blood test (prostate specific antigen). The tissue removed during my TURP waa analyzed by a pathologist, and it was determined that I have prostate cancer, but there is so little of it and it is such a slow growing variety that my PSAs for years have been pretty much under 3. Hopefully, this will be a case of "watch and wait" fizr years to come.

In the meantime, I'm doing those Kegels so I can try to eliminate my urge incontinence which is what this is all about. I hate using pads and I hate taking these damn medications so I hope this helps alter if not
eliminate my incontinence.

I hope my verbal vomiting here helps someone!

G, I’ve been doing these with just lifting in the front. I didn’t know you’re supposed to lift the front and the back. Maybe that’s why they haven’t been working?

But everybody said that you’re supposed to lift like you’re squeezing not to go to the bathroom (yes I’m a woman)

You guys are awesome. This was two years ago. I wish I could’ve won that price. I have pain in my feet, and it would’ve been great exercise.
