They come here thinking that this is Acalpuco or Puerto Rico, or where do they go for the spring brake. They arrive here and see that it is a European city with rain and cold.

Using your videos for my English classes. I'm very glad to have found your channel since it provides a great perspective from a Russian-speaking person, which is useful for my students

Only thing I'm surprised about is how much it rains! I don't find it super cold and we do have moisture/humidity issues, but no black mold!! We are remodeling so we are painting with an anti-humidity paint and then regular paint. Definitely need warm clothes and a space heater in the bedroom, but it's all about adapting and learning what works for you!! We just repaired a wood burner so yhat should help yhis year!!

I'm pretty excited to visit Portugal for my first time after living in Brazil and spending some time in Winnipeg - MB. Let's see, maybe we gonna be moving there next year.

I've experienced many winters of -40 C in Canada but I've never been as cold as I am now in Portugal. The lack of heating and insulation in homes here is brutal. I'm staying with friends and they all wear jackets and hats inside of their house and act like this is normal. Electric heaters can't be used a lot because electricity is crazy expensive. I can't believe this is a EU country. It's miserable and I can't wait to leave. It's a good place to come for a week in the summer but unless I was really rich I couldn't imagine living here in these conditions.

Hi Julia!!
I always think of you when Winter rolls in to Canada....
Today it was already -3C in Toronto and I was into my 2nd level extreme coat stage....gloves out, hood up....the 3rd level is still in the wardrobe....I know you want to be here...so I will think of you when I have my next whiskey by the Pub fire...as the snow/ sleet plays outside!!! Come back to us...we need Winter groupies like you!!!

I decided to give a bit perspective from the north of the country(Porto). I dont find it particularly cold(well, its defenetely colder than the south), but when it comes to rains it sucks so much. Last year it was raining for a few months straight, like almost every day, even on Christmas and a new year.
But what is even worse are the housing conditions. Many houses(mine uncluded) as you've told has no heating whatsoever. Again, in the north it sucks much more, because winters temperatures are lower. When it was +12 degrees last winter, we had +14 degrees inside even on a sunny side of our apartment(being on a sunny side only helps when there is a sun and not the constant raining). The only option is to use electric heaters that you buy yourself but for our apartment you still can't heat up all of the apartment due to its size. Last winter we ended up using heaters only for the room we work in and put up a lot of clothes to stay relatively warm.
All in all I do appreciate local summer being much milder than Lisbon, but winters are harsh.

Same here in Hong Kong, it can still get quite chilly, sometimes as low as +5 and there is no central heating here. None of the buildings are insulated so if it's cold out it's cold inside. The problem is that people believe Hong Kong is jungle like Phuket but our winters are quite cool and unpredictable. Sure it can still be +30 in January but can also be +5 depending on the year

It's not a tropical country either. I don't understand what people expect from a southern European country. I spent the winter there for study abroad. I have to say it was much warmer, more pleasant and less rainy than in Germany. Yes, winter exists in Portugal, but the season is much shorter.

The only place in Portugal with the better weather is Madeira Island, their location near Africa, you can swim in the ocean during all year

From Southern California, where I've heard the weather in Lagos in similar. But it does not sound like it. We don't get mold. We do have central heat and AC. Jeez, I'm going to Lagos in February. I think I'll bring my serious winter clothes. Thank you!
