In this Lecture, I will continue discussing the History of Ancient Greece with primary emphasis on the Rise of the Greek City-States. Beginning around the 8th Century B.C., the Greek polis became the center of Greek life in the Ancient World. This included over 1,000 various states in the Aegean Sea region which include famous states such as Athens and Sparta. This period begins what will later become Classical Greece.

The aspect of the city states and their differences in equality was always an interesting aspect to me, particularly with how quote on quote “more civilized” Attica or Athens seemed to be over Sparta. But of course their roles in their society do kind of explain why. What do you think professor?
