In 2025, thanks to new technology, police officers can immerse themselves in crime scenes, reconstructed in virtual reality, to help them solve their investigations. When Ludo, a police captain, uses VR to analyze the crime scene of a drowned woman on a beach, someone familiar appears to him. Vortex is a French series now distributed by Netflix that feels a lot like The Butterfly Effect, with even larger moral dilemmas. Should you binge Vortex? Thanks for checking out my Vortex Netflix Series Review!

Kudos to the cast. I found myself invested in all the characters. Even the ultimate culprit. The aging makeup was very well done, too. It really hit home in the ending scene and the ending line.

I've just watched all 6 episodes on Netflix and OMG I had my hands over my mouth with tears streaming down my face at the ending scene such was the power of it all. I've never seen such a MIND BLOWING CAPTIVATING drama movie with more twists and turns than a Bipolar Rollercoaster at the same time as sitting on a razor blade edge of seat and when you know what's gonna happen next AND YOU KNOW 100% what's gonna happen next YOU'RE WRONG and taken totally off-guard and moments of tears streaming in abundance just hoping and praying that nothing else happens at that particular point of GOODNESS and of course the next event happens and your heart sinks and then you think OMG NO NO NO don't let that happen and the next event happens but just WOW and OMG GOODNESS GRACIOUS this is a drama movie and 3/4 that when it actually ends you sit in silence and just ponder what you've just seen, LOVE LOVE LOVE VORTEX even with English subtitles it was one of the best drama movies I've seen in such a very long time. Thank You NETFLIX ❤

It's a perfect miniseries! Very satifisfying story, top notch acting, very likeable characters, and almost everything makes sense.

I really enjoy your reviews, Chris. Like my friend Roger Ebert did, you give this reader/viewer enough information to make up my mind as to whether the show is something I should see. I finished Vortex before finding this review, and it's everything you said - suspenseful, exciting, and heartbreaking. The writing, directing, and acting are outstanding!

The makeup for the aging was amazing (for the most part at least). I literally had to check on IMDb to verify that the characters from the different time periods were played by the same actors. My only issue is that with period movies set in the late 90s and 2000s, because aesthetically that time looks very similar to today, some novelty is lost. That's why stories set in the 80s and earlier are more fun to watch, because sonically they are so visually different from today, like Back to the Future and Stranger Things for example. But for this story to work, I guess it could have only been set either in the 90s, or alternatively in the 2040s +.

The strength of this show is seeing all the effects changing things in the past had on the present.

I didn’t care about the technicalities of the time travel although the running into the wall was corny but funny.

I’d guess what hooked audiences is what doing this had the effect on that and present Ludo reacting.

The ending is abrupt but I got the sense they were writing backward from the ending, while it makes for a touching scene I can see things getting messy afterwards.

Zineb Triki who plays Parvenu I recognized her as Nadia from The Bureau.

It’s a good binge but I didn’t quite buy fully into the ending.

I grew up watching Siskel & Ebert, Rex Reed, Gene Shallot, etc, and now I watch many of the top YouTube movie/series review channels… Gotta say, you’re incredibly eloquent. Excellent presentation, and you have a great ability to give a thoughtful, thorough critique in a very short window. Kudos!

I’m just finishing up my Yellowjackets binge — Christina Ricci is crushing it! Thinking I’ll start From on Amz Prime next. Have you got a [all-time] favorite film, Chris?

Watching Vortex, struggling with the French. Only understanding a few words here and there. High School French so many moons ago. I don't normally watch any movie I have to read. Don't mind CC in case I'm feeling like I didn't clearly hear what they said. But for reading, TV isn't my thing. Very good so far, want to see where it leads.
