My grandfathers relative was an MG42 gunner. Said they could cut a refrigerator in half at about a mile. Insanely accurate with little recoil when prone and bipod deployed. Sad. All those GI videos said the German’s has crap weapons….led to a lot of false confidence and loss of life.

There were only 2 weaknesses in the MG-42 design.
-It chewed through ammo like a kid on candy.
-It would get glowing red hot almost immediately.

Nearly impossible to keep this kind of fire up for a multi hour engagement. Would need an entire truck worth of ammo and 100 new barrels on stand by.
