TRP HY/RD Short Pull Conversion Arm Installation

How-to video showing disassembly and installation of the JJBP short pull conversion arm for TRP HY/RD calipers. This arm allows proper caliper function (auto-adjusting pads) with short pull brake levers such as Campagnolo and older Shimano and SRAM.

I just installed a set on my calipers and thought I should pass on a comment. When I tightened up the piston rod according to instructions I found that the arm lock (for cable adjustment) was very difficult to engage and screw in. I discovered that turning the piston rod back inwards about a turn allowed the locking screw to run smoothly into the barrel. Apparently there may be a few thousandths of an inch variation between the old and new arms. (but having said that, I didn't check the whether the original assembly was fully tightened). In any case the locking setscrew will hold the piston rod from rotating. Afterwards I found the lever travel to be much improved and had the bike out for a ride today. That old "Oh s***, no brakes" feeling is now gone! BTW- my levers are SORA R3000. Thanks.

Thanks for making these! It has made my life a little more comfortable on my 9-speed. I have two notes for you:

(1) I found it easier to reinstall the pivot bushing by putting my hex key through the hole in the bushing first, finding and locking in the end of the piston with the key, then sliding the bushing up the key to the piston.

(2) Slightly related: I had to loosen the piston screw (not the set screw) out of the bushing slightly to get the brakes to bite all the way (in your video, you say "turn that until it stops"). When I first installed it with it all the way in, the caliper grip was not effective. I think this is the way it came from the factory, as that screw seemed quite loose, but unfortunately, I don't have any other advice than "if it doesn't work right, unlock and unscrew it a little" or "maybe measure the number of turns they unscrewed it before removing it, but remember that you have to do this by turning it counterclockwise."

[edit] I've found that you can loosen the set screw and adjust the piston screw with the wheel mounted. Doing this until you find the lever pull and caliper grip to be "about right" is the best I can say about it for now.

I will be setting up another production run of brake arms in the near future. Any special color requests? I still have a set or two of gray arms available. Happy to run another color (or colors) if enough interest is shown. Otherwise they’ll all be black.

It appears as though Amazon has finally enabled international shipping. And they can ship to Europe cheaper than I can, too!

Thanks for designing and making these!
Is there any place I can still buy those? They appear to be out of stock at amazon.

I'm currently running Campagnolo levers with TRP Hy/Rd, I would love to get my hands on a set of these conversion arms!

What about for bmx levers. Is this the mod to do?

As far as I can tell, these arms essentially move where the wire cable is clamped onto.  I had issues with engaging the lock screw with these conversion arms.  The lock screw is not 90degrees to the arm.

I'd need a pair of these magnificent conversion parts, too. When will they be available?

Hi Joe, are you still selling these arms? I have some Sram Rival (10sp) levers, and although they are not that old, I find that the lever pull needs the full movement of the levers to grab, so I am having issues adjusting the position of the levers to stop them hitting the bars before getting decent braking.
I found the Short Arm kit on Amazon, but it says they have none, and have no idea when or if they will have any. Plus, I am in Australia.
Is the Short Arm kit still available, as it sounds like these would solve the issue without any hacks...so before I ditch the TRP brakes and go back to BB7's or try the Spyre Mechanical brakes, this is worth a shot

Hi, do these allow the Hy Rd to work with new Shimano Tiagra 10 Speed levers?
