David Grann, author of the New York Times Bestselling "Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI", is my guest on this week's episode of Most Notorious. He talks about his research into a spree of murders of oil-rich Osage Indians in 1920s Oklahoma. Dozens and dozens of people were being murdered in a crime wave that became so sensational that J Edgar Hoover and his fledgling F.B.I. were forced to intercede. A team of agents, led by famed lawman Tom White would eventually uncover a diabolical plot to slaughter an entire family.

I'm so glad you got Mr. Grann on. He is one of my favorite writers. I have one of his collections of New Yorker pieces and his story I think it's called the Devil and Sherlock Holmes is amazing; also Trial by Fire is one of the pieces about forensic science fraud with arson investigations that totally changed my perspective on the criminal justice system. Also the Lost City of Z. Everything he writes is fantastic. Definitely interested to hear about his new book.

Thank you for sharing this story. I knew bits and pieces of this previously & I will always be outraged by what greed and prejudice can do to people. The fact that these people didn't even have the right to manage their own money is absolutely horrific, not to mention all the other crimes perpetrated on them.

I am saddened that this story seems to get literally no interest. But, when you view this story and the Massacre of Greenwood in 1921, it's hard to 'ever' think well of Oklahoma.

WoW this aged so well. Not the story but the fact that this channel is well ahead of the bell curve. The history of the terrible way Natives have been treated is disgusting and the story must get out.

The largest ranch in Oklahoma is right there at the huska and almost all of it was stolen from the Osage by the drummonds ancestors, so in case you're wondering yeah they're very very very wealthy

When ever people use the term "civilized society" I think of the Osage Murders. USA never had any intention to let the Natives have any real power.
