One of the main reasons they do it is because sadly, people on the internet will sexualise anything, so it’s better to have an adult playing a teenager then a teenager playing a teenager

Well in a show like euphoria, I don’t think you’d want a teenager to be playing a teenager…

I'd rather a teenager in a tv show look a little too old than have people sexualise real life teenagers

Imagine getting a real teenager to act in euphoria 💀 they definitely will be traumatized

Emotional maturity is required for acting, as well as talent. A lot of teenagers haven't developed those skills as well as an adult who can look young with makeup. Also some teenagers really do look old AF.

I’d prefer them to hire adults so that children don’t have to suffer being exposed to the industry at such a young age.

Here’s the main reason: Children aren’t allowed to work as long as adults so hiring adults is significantly cheaper because the shoot wraps in less days.

Edit: People acting like I support it lol, I'm just telling you the truth as someone whose family works in film. OBVIOUSLY young adults would be best.

it’s for a lot of reasons the biggest ones sadly would be so that they can film sexual stuff for the show or movie. It’s also because if you hire a teenager, you have to deal with their parents and their whole entourage of people who manage them if you work with teenagers, you also have to either work around the school schedule or have tutors on site where your actors will have to stop filming to get educated while working

People need to chill out. Olivia Newton-John was 32 when she was in “Grease.” Gabrielle Carteris was 29 when she joined the cast of the original “Beverly Hills 90210” and 34 when she left the cast. Amanda Foreman was 32 when she joined the cast of “Felicity“ in 1998 while playing a 19-year-old college student. A more recent example is the cast of “Pretty Little Liars.” With the exception of one actress, all of them were adults in their twenties and some early thirties playing high school students. This is not uncommon. It also has a lot to do with child labor laws. Adults can work longer because they're not minors.

We saw Cole Sprouse as an actual teenager. 10 years later, he was still playing one.

I’m glad they cast adults for a show like Euphoria… ain’t no way I’m watching that show if they’re ACTUAL teenagers…

These people need to stop complaining. This is to protect teen actors’ SAFETY. In a show like Euphoria, a teen doing all those things is NOT something that the studios are going to make, so they have adults do it. Plus, you’d be surprised at how old a lot of high schoolers look nowadays normally.

Yes but on the other side it’s not that bad, the environment and the industry can be toxic for teens so it’s fine if adults play the roles.

Given the amount of times Darren/Paxton was sexualized in that show, I'm so glad it was a grown man in his 30s but given the fact that Devi looked young, it was so weird to see them together sometimes 😭

can’t they just hire 18-19 year olds tho, that way they’re legal adults but also still technically teenagers too

I just want them to stop sexualizing high schoolers 😶

Edit: this comment section is terrifying. The amount of people who don't know how hypersexualization is implemented into the minds of teens is insane.

i don't know what's worse, people saying that guy looks 45 or that 45 had an old person attached to it 😭

Children (Yes that includes Teens) have incredibly strict protections in place for filming— this is a GOOD thing as many child actors were mistreated over the years. They not only have restrictions on hours they can work but must have a tutor on set/required to attend school and other support. PLUS when you consider the subject matter of some of these “teen” shows, many scenes already require an intimacy coordinator (someone who assists the director in ‘sensitive’ scenes and makes sure the actors are comfortable w/nudity etc.) Anywho, having actual teens under 18 could definitely complicate filming these scenes and is inappropriate.

They could easily cast people that are 19 or in their early 20s rather than 30s especially if the characters need to look a certain age for a long time.

Another reason they do this is because of puberty. Your body and features change a lot with puberty from person to person (think about how Neville Longbottom looked in the first film vs. The last) and people don't always luck-out with the genetics lottery.
