Forget the poles for a second. That location is spectacular 😍.

Fascinating! Never knew running poles were a performance tool. While the coaching is the lead, the gorgeous landscape is definitely a co-star!

Perfect timing for this video! I've been training for several weeks with them ahead of an August race with 6800 up and 9700 down in it. Can't wait for that downhill video now!

Thanks Coach Dan... missed this when it came out but now training for an event where I'm definitely going to have to get and learn to use poles😁

That was a good video, although I adjust my poles for the terrain. If you get get the correct length you can shorten them for the up hills and lengthen them on the way down and set them roughly in the middle for the flatter sections, particularly late in a long ultra.

Did you ever make the downhill running pole technique videos? I haven't found a running pole technique video that covers downhill, so far the ones I've watched just show flat and uphill techniques.

Thanks! I am new to poles but will need them for sure next week (50M w/17k vert). first impression after 3 trial runs: not much learning curve. they feel great and natural and help a ton but will require some upper body adaptation - i am very sore btw the shoulder blades (muscles i havent used much). need gloves (maybe fishing gloves?). naked running band holds them nicely.
downhill they are good too. i can use them as a brace taking pressure off knees going over logs and big rocks. they feel awful on stairs. do not use them on a bridge deck!

Where is that location in the video? I like how the steps are built into the trail.

I wonder how well it will work on the infamous Colorado springs

I use poles but for walking not running. I guess you could use it either way.

My issues are going down hill. Downhill will kill my knees. I can go uphill all day long with no issue.
