The best explenation is: A normal gallop is an 8th note, and then two 16th notes. A reverse gallop (also known as a slayer gallop) is two 16th notes, and then an 8th note. They probably need to be played, as themselves, multiple times in succession. Normal gallop is down, down, up. Reverse gallop is down, up, down. The Trooper shows a normal gallop well, and Raining Blood shows a reverse gallop well. Looking at the tab for both songs on Songsterr helps a lot.

Weird that you wouldn't use a single Metallica or thrash riff to demonstrate galloping. Though it didn't start there, 80s thrash basically perfected galloping.
