The level of precision in the endgame was mind boggling.

Every move after 38. a4 was an only move, 16 to be exact.

before Hikaro played 40.. c3, Benjamin Bok, commentating, said “Hopefully Hikaru takes a nice long think to find c3, his only chance.”. Instead Hikaru blitzed it in seconds. Commentators were stunned.

It will never stop being funny to me that one of the greatest Chess Players of all time, currently in the Candidates for an opportunity to play for the World Chess Championship, describes outside passed pawns at 11:58 as the "widePeepos"

There is one chess piece people associate with _beauty..._ The KNIGHT.

How Hikaru's knight was able to land on the precise squares to secure the draw was nothing short of spectacular.

Most impressive game I’ve seen from Hikaru. To run straight into that prep and come out unscathed… impressive.

I thought this endgame was practically lost very early on but the way you maneuvered that with stockfish precision really reminded me how strong super GMs like yourself are. A thrill to watch

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Hikaru with massive plot armor. Amazing defense.

I was a little worried when you were short on time, then you played the 3 top engine moves with 2 minutes left. Pretty sweet. Go hikaru!

When Hikaru was becoming popular on twitch, Classical time format got a bad wrap for being too boring with lots of draws. Speed chess was considered better. Games like this will start to drive the casual chess fan to appreciate Classical. These complicated games with deep analysis can be a joy to follow.

Incredible hold there. This draw feels like a win for me, crushing Alireza's insane prep with the long but correct time usage, keeping in mind that Alireza had almost 8 months to prepare and was at some point the favorite candidate after Ding, its just impressive.

The streaming recaps in middle of a very important tournament just shows the love Hikaru has for his followers.

God-level defense from Hikaru. He knew it was a draw so far ahead of commentators and stockfish. So many nuanced lines, tricks and traps in the endgame.

It was a great game . After playing for more than 5 + hours u manage to give us recap of the game.
Such an inspirational and hardworking person

Hikaru does not sugarcoat in his analysis . Though he played with computer like precision in the endgame , he acknowledges that Alireza could have won if he had not exchanged the final rook pair . Still an astonishing achievement to hold the draw .

Can’t do anything but respect the prep you put continue to put in, plus the additional effort you go to, to recap for us online. A true entertainer, enjoy that rest day Hikaru! See you on the other side 😅

Not only uploading a video after an exhaustive game, but also taking photos with the fans in Madrid. You are a real master!

Beating Firouzja was the biggest reason Hikaru stated for reentering classical chess. Magnus stated that Firouzja should be his next competitor. Hikaru stepped it up by saying he would make Candidates and beat Firouzja. Excellent stuff! I’ve never watched so much chess commentary. 😂
