I sold some gear…

I sold some music production gear, so it's time to pontificate at length as to why, and also talk about gear I wouldn't sell.

"Time to exploit that for content"...haha, always appreciate your honesty 👍

I struggle with this. I think that over the years, I've given away more hardware to good friends who are getting into production, than I've bothered to sell.

Watching Gabe Miller's video makes me glad my first real synth and main synth is a Novation Circuit. My Circuit is not the Tracks, but OG Circuit. A used OG Circuit is an unbelievable value!

I’m older. My advice… buy and store while you are young. When you are older you have lots of other financial obligations. I have enough old gear (and a place to keep it) that as long as I sell first I am never actually spending new money. Also know that sometimes gear doesn’t click with you when you get it… but it can turn into a favorite down the road. Just my opinion (which took a while to figure out, lol)

Thanks for the video, I can relate to your experience. I recently sold my Digitakt as well as Digitone and Syntakt that help fund my purchase of the MPC Key 61. As a keyboard player and singer the MPC gave me more than enough sounds to use and a workflow that made it easy to create songs. I found my Elektron gear was very useful for jamming but I was not being productive in making finished songs. The fact that the Mpc allows such a seemless workflow with software has meant I can make my song ideas on the Key 61, perform them with vocal effects to flush then out and perfect the final touches on the computer. I thought I would deeply miss the Digitakt in particular but I have been happy with the MPC. I do wonder about relying on one device as a gigging musician but so far the process has been good. I appreciate your channel and commentary. Thanks.

I just sold my Circuit Tracks to get a MC707 and have no regrets. It's a great machine.

If you can get your hands on a Polyend Play, give it a whirl. It’s opened my eyes to how a groovebox can sequence.

So much fun.

Sell the DT after they finally added song mode? 😢

I just decided to KEEP my Syntakt too. Thought I'd flip it but it's just too good! 😊 Just posted my review of it, comparing it against the Digitone. I am thinking about selling my MPC however. As much as I love it, it's a bit too much of a DAW in a box to me, and I already have a DAW.

We all have complicated feelings about the MPC. Drives me completely insane sometimes. Three cheers for the OG Circuit. How good are Novation!

Good video 👍. I have a couple of synths that I'm not sure why I keep. The Boutique JP-08 is one. I'm probably the only person in the world who actually likes the cute little faders (a finger pinch instead of a wrist waggle) but too often it sounds like a generic analogue model shoved through something to make it sound like a Jupiter. It's hard to make sounds on it that get me excited. That same day I also bought a Reface CS which has got mojo by the bucket. The CS is definitely a keeper.

I've tried to sell my Digitakt 3 times. Every time I do so, I go back through and listen to all the projects I have stored on it, and then I fall in love with the sounds it can make all over again and it ends up staying in my collection. "WHY CAN'T I QUIT YOU?"

Ah I'm a bit opposite right now just got a bunch more gear ! Haha I decided to pick a few gear, set it up, do videos on the gear, and record songs with them, and repeat!

i use different trick .. when i don’t use gear for some time, i just pack it into box and hide it somewhere in closet so it disappears from my eyesign for examole for few months .. literally always when i then rediscover it, it is great moment almost like i bought new one and always lot of creativity with that hw follows :-)

My god man! I almost didn't see the "don't sell" up top when you flashed the Tracks and nearly had a heart attack! 🤣

I shed a tear for the model:cycles I've been on the edge of selling it after getting the syntakt but I've decided to order a USB power cable to it and use it as my portable elektron box

I agree with your comments on OP-1. I'm keeping mine just because its so fun unique. I'm finding that my Macbook Pro laptop makes a great travel music device lately. I have my DAW and so many sound options and soft synths on there. Playing notes on the laptop keyboard is a drawback of course. I'll be interested to see what you review next now that you'll have some more room.
