The 24 hours thing can apply in some cases. If the person is over 18 and they disappear without a disturbance in the home and with a car/phone/wallet missing they may actually make you wait because “they can leave on their own”. Still a good idea to call, but there’s been a lot of cases where they just disregarded it because it was an adult
