Why is it that every time someone debates the whole issue of NATO expansion, they never point out what Eastern European countries want? Like "NATO wants security from Russia, Russia wants security from NATO", but Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, etc. are like "Yeah? Well, what about what WE want? HUH?!"

You aren't even considering that all of Eastern Europe was really afraid of Russia invading them like they did now. That's why they wanted to get into NATO.

Any European country who applies to NATO and satisfies the entry requirements for membership may be considered. Russia has zero veto authority over an organization which it isn't a member.
The worst thing that can be done for world peace would be to appease Putin’s aggression.

The reason that they will not give a specific date on when Ukraine can join NATO is because Ukraine cannot join NATO while they are currently engaged in a war with Russia. The second that is over is the second they can give a timeline. The fact that you didn't mention this shows extreme incompetence or shows that you're intentionally choosing to mislead people.

The USA Agreed to protect Ukraine from any power that had Nukes when Ukraine gave up all their Nukes.

Just wanted to point out that Ireland didn’t actually join nato, and to this day remains a neutral country. They didn’t join because of the unnatural division of Ireland caused by Britain. (They also didn’t want to join an alliance with a country that has caused them problems for decades).

30 minutes of saying Ukraine is a sacrificial lamb, and that that's a good thing.

Iceland is the missing NATO nation that was represented instead by Ireland among the 12 founding members listed. Ireland is not Iceland.

NATO is why we haven't gone to war in Europe since the last war.

Ireland wasn’t a member of NATO when NATO was first formed

Im surprised that there is no mention of the same seeming impossibility about a country ever joining NATO because of unwanted provocation to Russia in Finland (and by extension Sweden). That was seen as a line that wouldn't ever be crossed and was hypothetically extremely off the table with Putin also speak about nuclear first use as a response and treating that as an act of aggression.

That posturing all held up… until Putin walked that back as the war in the Ukraine showed the weakness of Russia militarily, and the path opened up. Post-war, Ukraine coming into NATO wouldn't make any meaningful difference that hasn't already occurred or be any different to Finland's reaction to Russia's own aggression in this exact war.

If anything, Ukraine joining NATO post-war is more likely as the _exact_ same type of defensive alliance against Russia attempting it again. Russia doesn't have the resources to go to war with NATO, and they don't stand to gain anything from aggression either.

By the same token, the corruption in the Russian military is the exact same issue that was reported on with the Chinese military earlier this year as both were derived from the same Soviet model. Russia's fumble in Ukraine also lilely caused China's hesitation towards moving to invade Taiwan.

Like with Finland, it's important to remember that while smaller nations are a favet of larger geopolitical posturing between the US, Russia, & China, they're more nuanced than just that, and recent events make this video feel like it's already taking an outdated perspective of current events.

And how much of Russia's nuclear arsenal actually works, given the state of their other equipment...

Sometimes I disagee with your conclusions. This is one of the times. The balances of power are ever-changing.

I am a proud supporter of Ukraine one day joining the NATO alliance the Ukrainians have show to have been an effective fighting force and their courage is unmatched in all of Europe! Eastern Europe time and time again has been invaded and NATO must expand the borders to keep Putin’s force on a leash.

I just wonder what other thing could have been proposed to all those countries that clearly wanted to join NATO, like the Baltics, Poland, etc. If NATO would not have officially expanded, but given similarly strongly security assurances, would that have been enough to calm Russia down, or would that only have been viewed as an 'indirect NATO membership' by Moscow? Would they have proposed NATO to be disolved similarly to how the Warsaw Pact was disolved? I can clearly see the arguements proposed here, yet they have no given any arguements what else could have bene done instead.

I guess you confused Ireland with Iceland there at 1:46.

This whole “no east” expansion was in the context of Germany (which is what the unification treaty provides). The USSR and Warsaw Pact was alive and kicking when that treaty was signed. Even Gorbachev conceded NATO expanding east generally was not discussed - this was in a 2014 interview.,
