Today marks the 7th day of the hunger strike by junior doctors in Kolkata, with Aniket Mahanto from R.G. Kar Medical College hospitalized due to deteriorating health. This critical situation unfolds during one of Bengal's biggest festivals, Durga Puja. While the doctors have pledged to continue working through the festivities, they have warned of drastic measures afterward.

The protests intensified following an assault on doctors and nurses at Sagore Dutta Hospital, leading to a full cease-work after initial negotiations with the state government broke down. On October 4, a 24-hour ultimatum was given for the government to meet their demands, resulting in the hunger strike initiated on October 5. As the strike progresses, senior doctors have begun resigning in solidarity, with over 70 resignations recorded by October 9. These actions, while termed "symbolic," underscore the doctors' commitment to their cause as they seek to address critical issues in the healthcare system.
