Upper plate is +vely charged and the lower plate is -vely charged. And the hole is made in +vely charged plate i.e upper plate... So the explanation given by mam is incorrect..

Madam you are not taking the correct mass. According to F= Mg mass should be taken for the oil drop not mass of the gas
