This video is an overview of the Hagibis USB-C Hub with Hard Drive Enclosure compatible with the M1 Mac Mini. There are lots of similar hubs out there but I chose this one because of the SSD enclosure. Check the affiliate link below if you're interested in purchasing one of these. Thanks a bunch & let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Hagibis is tagalog for the whirring sound of a fast-moving vehicle makes. Also the name of a well known Filipino band in the 80's. Nice review btw.

I'd like to make a brief mention that if a Mac Mini M1 user chooses one of the newish Philips USB-C Docking monitors to connect to their Mac (possibly as a SECOND monitor via USB-C port), they will be providing further expansion to their setup.
Thanks to that USB-C connection, - the pair of USB 3.0 ports, along with an Ethernet port, plus an Audio-Out port facilitate further links which can include a wired K/board / Mouse [particularly when using a Mac K/board with dual USB incl] and powering / recharging via either USB!
This option can free-up one (or both) USB port/s on the Mac itself!

Hi did you try plugging the Hagibis into one of the USB A ports? and if so what was the result? I have a samsung T7 usb-C drive plugged into USB A on the back of the Mac Mini or into a 4 port USB 3.0 Hub the transfer speeds are around 360 Mbit using the black Magic speed test , however plugging into the mac mini's USB C port, it performs at around 780Mbit/sec.

If you look on Amazon for a USB-C hub there are not really any USB-C hubs as such, plenty plug into a USB-C port but they all are just USB3.0 speed outputs (or slower).

Thunderbolt is different those ports on the mac mini support 40mbit speeds cpmpared with the 5 Mbit of usb3.0 8x faster. usb 3.2 is 10Mbit the USB4/ thunderbolt port speed is 40Mbit dual lane. You never get the full speed they claim there is always some overhead. If you look at thunderbolt driive enclosures these can give speeds of 2600Mbit with nvme drives inside.

I am waiting on a thunderbolt 4 dock from OWC it has 4 thunderbolt 4 ports, this is new technology and does something thunderbolt 3 couldn't do the older devices just daisy chained essentially 1 thunderbolt port between computer and hub and a 2nd thunderbolt port for another thunderbolt drive the OWC gives 3 outputs to allow 3 chains instead of one.

Therre are 2 limiting factors in these serial buses the slowest links and the slowest devices. If you take a keyboard for example it only needs a usb 1 port to connect to it gets no faster if you connect to a faster port if we have a mechanical hdd connect to a usb 2.0 port and you usually get around 27 Mbit transfers plugin to a usb3.0 port and transfers are over 100Mbit so in this case the drive limits the speed it has to move its heads to read the data. Move on to an SSD with a sata connection then the Sata becomes the bottleneck with SSD the read speed is higher than write speed as there is less to do a write can need to erase a block add the new data to the block and write it out if its an unused block there is no need to erase just write and if its reading its just a read.

Anyway since the port speed on usb 3.0 is capped at 5, 000 then 5, 000 should be enough between the hub and the mini and it doesn't need the speed of the USB-C port. You do also have the problem of being bus powered there is a max current to be supplied from a usb3.0 port which is much lower than can be carried over usb-C You may be familiar with devices that use 2 USB A type ports for a single device thats because the device needs more power than a single port can supply. It's easily possible the hagbis needs more power than can be supplied by a USB A port which is why its using USB-C. it may need a powered usb hub to sit between it and the mac mini if you connect via USB A.

Good video dude!
I'll definitely be coming back to your channel, in the future.
From other video reviews on this dock...i am beginning to suspect it is not just the Mac M1 alone..not being able to give us decent speeds Over USB 3.
I've been holding out, rooting for a M1X upgrade with 4 TB ports...but i reckon i might end up, not waiting.
No further developments/updates on these matters ?
What about bluetooth?
100% solid?
Thanks very much for the vídeo.
Nice edit & visuals, too!
Cheers

I’ll buy the Hagibus for the rest of us on Festivus. Now let the airing of grievances begin.

Can you tell us about what looks like soundproofing on your walls? What did you use? Does it work well? Thanks.

HI there, so now that you've had this for several months how do you like it? I've read it disconnects when your mini goes to sleep and that causes issues. Have you found any problem with this or other issues? Thanks so much, great videos!!!🙏

This was a good M1 review too! So, you have to go out and buy rubber feet for the Mac. Egads. And disappointing interface speeds. Editing video that's beyond the pale. And with two ports..it sure is a mini. The port extender doesn't look like it's much to shout about. I'm glad you bought it before I went all out. I've got to have a bunch of ports unless I want to be plugging and unplugging all the time. I can buy a USB3 hub will lots of connectors. So what's the deal with Apple?

Did you use the original thunderbolt lead ? As others had the same issue until they used the thunderbolt and worked fine ... 🙂

Get some small rubber feet for the Mac Mini.

Why not have more USB ports on the back? I have 4 external HD's and still haven't found a decent dock yet.

have one and randomly tells me that the disk was improperly ejected, anyone else have this issue ?

How do you prevent the external HD from disconnecting all the time when in sleep mode ?
