The problem is there are a ton to choose from, and there's a lot of junk out there! In this video I'll explain everything as best as I can, and hopefully it'll help guide you towards something that works best for you!

Docks sometimes scare me especially when you don't know much about how they affect your battery. Thanks so much for the video.

Brilliant. This video is great. My nearly 80 year old dad who recently bought a new Mac was flummoxed by the fact it only had USB C ports, and so few of them to boot. So...All his external devices with USB type A connectors would now be otherwise junk. Crikey...I find all these standards with different power through puts and transfer speeds confusing, so someone who's 80 years old? Well good luck! Many thanks for this.

I have a Honeywell 7 in 1 Type C docking port. It works very well for me and provides me with fast output for almost everything.

Brilliant! You are so knowledgeable…and your delivery is so concise and easy to understand. To quote one of the other viewers here —> there is no-BS, just good quality information! Great appreciation for you and your channel. THANK YOU 😊

Very good information. Might suggest an explanation of Thunderbolt vs. USB and compatibility between them. Thanks for the recommendations.

I just wanted to commend you on a truly informative, helpful, no-BS video. It's rare to see that these days when "content creators" (sigh) focus more on trying to look cool and show off than actually help their viewers. More matter, less art, as the Bard said. Keep it up.

Have you tested how the hubs/docks perform when utilizing several ports at once? Like display output, webcam on, Ethernet on, mouse, keyboard, and transferring files.

Make sure not to buy a hub without a solid no-questions return policy and make sure to stress test it for your use case immediately on purchase. As a working professional, I’ve had hubs from a lot of these brands fail in the field whenever they were used in anything outside the most relaxed conditions. Many have been particularly sketchy on large file transfers.

I've had the caldigit element for a couple years now. I think it's the best option of the ones needing a power supply. All its ports are fast, 4 usb-a and 3 thunderbolt 4. I think the big difference between the element and ts4 is power delivery through the ports? Anyway, you could nearly buy two elements for the price of one ts4 and the element is the same price as that hyper hub with the gan power supply. I think the element is definitely superior to the hyper hub b/c it also has 4 usb-a ports and the hyper hub has none. I dont see much of a differnece between a small power brick and a cable tbh.

As an Anker adapter user (the 7 in 1 that is 100$), there is 1 issue am finding with all of them (I charge my Mac on a different port than the port I plug in the adapter to) I connect my mouse, keyboard, HDMI cable and an ethernet cable to the adapter and charge the macbook directly, the adapter becomes very hot after an hour or so and the keyboard and mouse starts to disconnect, it's not robust enough as you might think.

Thanks for the video! I basically just want to run two external monitors and power my macbook M4 with one cable. What would be the best hub to accomplish this?

Bought a cheap generic hub for my M1 MacBook Air, one day the computer wouldn't turn on, took it in and was told by a aftermarket Apple repair centre that the cheap hub I used likely fried my motherboard.
I had the motherboard replaced, been using a quality hub ( Dell hub ) on it now and have had no problems for the last 3 years now.

yo i have a question, I'm using a 2023 macbook to power my music studio and am thinking of getting a higher end doc/hub for it. After watching I'm still not super sure on what would be best to go with. I want to have 3 monitors hooked up (doesn't really matter about having 4k-8k but would prefer). Since I'm using alot of studio gear I find myself still needing a bunch of USB A ports. Any ideas for something like that?

Thank you I liked your video but I do have a question for you. I have a MacBook Pro M3 that I have two external SSD's and I also have a 8 TB that runs on a USB but my question here is should I have a powered hub or just a hub with no power and just use that as transfer data thank you very much

I use henge/brydge docks and hubs (or did-company was aquired by someone) my lg monitor has hub functionality as well. 4 hdmi, display port, usbc and a. One cable laptop monitor and peripherals to monitor. I use a vertical dock and it’s all i touch.

Hi Kyle, I own the Anker 332 5-in-1 USB-C Hub and even gave it a positive review on Amazon when I purchased it. However, there is one issue that I am having with it, and that is audio playback over HDMI. When used in conjunction with my M1 MacBook Air and my Samsung monitor, audio playback over HDMI is choppy. Since you have the 332 in your possession, I'd like to know if you experienced similar issues when connecting the 332 and other USB-C hubs to your Apple Silicon-based Mac. I also own Apple's official USB-C Multiport AV Adapter, which works flawlessly as expected. I'd like to hear your thoughts.🤘🏼
