This Kilometrico jingle in the early 80s has been very useful to me. It was ran on Tv and in moviehouses because that was the time when the metric system was slowly introduced in the Phils. Whenever I need to convert, I sing this song in my mind and instantly, I'm able to convert. I was hoping to see the original jingle on YouTube (it was an ad about the Kilometrico blue ballpen that writes on and on and on :)), but your presentation is just as good! Thanks! ~ che, college in the early 80s ;)

Hey guys! Sorry for super duper late comment! But here’s the lyrics that you guys have been waiting for!

It's easy to change from english to metric...

The secret is fun if you know it
So let's all convert from english to metric
Let's do it, and share it, and show it!

Just multiply inches by 2.54 and you will get centimeters
The feet multiplied by .305 will give you equivalent meters
Just multiply pounds by .45 and you'll get kilograms it's true
The gallons by 3.79 will turn into liters for you!
Subtract 32 from degrees Fahrenheit, the result bare it in mind* (why?)
For you to multiply that with five over nine,
and you'll get Celsius just fine
The yards and the miles are things of the past
Use meters, and go kilometers
So out with the english, we're modern at last
The system of metric is better!

I am a physics teacher, I heard this song in kilometrico jingle more than 40 years ago. Our music lover math teacher in high school introduced it us, and I memorized it until now. I also it introduced to my students ( I'm not good in music though) because it's very helpful. I used one conversation factor from that song when I took professional licensure exam.😊

Thank you for sharing this very educational song. As I remember when I was in grade 5, my teacher in mathematics assigned me to sing this song for every section of my level grade.

I think your mom's voice and song had been in a TV commercial during the 80s to promote English to Metric conversion with matching cartoon.  A very useful material and so far the most info-dense among songs of same kind.  I am now letting my son memorize the same to remember the conversion better.  At least I now have an idea of how beautiful she is by just looking at you.  :-)
