So glad you are okay, man. The scar adds character. I realize how silly I have been. If I use a drill bit in a drill, I grab safety glasses. When I shoot an explosive mortar off from a cardboard tube that's been in the humidity of a garage for two years, I throw caution to the wind. It doesn't make sense. Thanks for the lesson.

Yeah, I work construction and I’ve been fired multiple times for being too slow and cautious. I’m 52, and never had a serious injury (yet!), unlike a lot of people who think I’m “too careful.” Meanwhile, I’m trying to die of old age with ten fingers and two eyes.

Glad you’re going to be okay.

Good God, man. I completely empathize with your situation. 9/2, at work building a police car, a 1/2 in. drill bit bound up and exploded, sending a 5mmX10mm shard through my cornea and out the side of my left eye. I lost part of my retina and my lens. Pardon the pun, but these are eye-opening experiences for sure. I wish you the best, brother, and a speedy and full recovery. I'm thankful you're able to continue with your much-appreciated videos. God bless.

Wish you fast recovery.

Glad you're recovering. I tried contact lenses for just long enough to decide I'd much rather have the extra protection of glasses in front of my eyes at all times.

Nothing hurts quite as much as gaining wisdom. I'm glad to hear you will recover.

In Sweden we have a saying whenever you just barely escape injury, it literally translates to "that was close to the eye", based on that the eyes being one of the most precious underrated things we have. Glad you got through it with hopefully a full recovery. Stay safe and keep up the great vids.
Happy holiday wishes from Sweden.

Happy to hear that you will recover fully. I think this was an excellent idea to tell your viewers so it can serve as a wake up call to everyone watching. Thanks for posting this.

If this video gives one person pause and prevents any kind of injury then it was well worth it! We wish you a speedy recovery and can't wait for new content in the new year. Happy New Year!

Great to hear you are on the mend.
As a retired airline pilot (over 65 & 20, 000+ flight time). I have learned over time control is often an illusion.
All the best in 2023

No boom where one is expected could just be one of the most terrifying things there is. UXO, even consumer grade fireworks, is no joke.
I'm glad for the positive you've received, and wish you a speedy recovery.

My rule of thumb for fireworks is to only approach them after 7-10 minutes have passed in case of misfire. This has helped me to prevent injuries in multiple cases. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery, aswell as a happy new year!

Glad you’re OK and thank you for posting your mishap to remind us all that it only takes a second to drop our guard and put our life or others in danger.

That is so horrible I am so glad you are okay. All the best and so happy you are well. It was so scary I scrolled down and couldn't watch just the thought of you injuring yourself. I've always admired your patience and expertise in everything you approach. Even as a tech enthusiast and a physician, your videos on brewing were the only reason I felt "safe" dabbling in that myself even though I had been bombarded by youtube videos on the topic and had done a ton of research myself. The level of care and caution and knowledge you have, and the extremely organized and patient approach you have is very confidence inspiring. To see you get injured is truly shocking, unfortunate and I am eternally grateful that you are well and still have the passion in science to keep going. God bless you and your family, I actually save your videos to show my son when he is old enough hoping he would want to try some together. Thank you for everything you do. Just thought i'd share the sentiment from a fan half-way across the world.

I am happy to hear you are recovering well. Nearly every time I injure myself its quickly preceded by a nagging thought "man i really shouldn't be doing this right now." It is still hard to listen to that voice. Thanks for sharing your story (even if it is embarrassing) and giving us all another reason to listen to that internal voice of reason. I look forward to more of the excellent content you all put out, happy new year!

I'm first of all glad and happy you are going to be ok and that you did not lose your vision. Second, I appreciate you sharing this because it is a stark example of how we all can become complacent and forget things in the moment and even someone who is as thorough and professional as you with a very high IQ can be a victim of their own oversight. We all do it, no need to deny it and someone like you sharing this story makes us all think the next time we go to poke something with a stick. Good on ya!

Thank you for turning this into a learning moment, I hope the people that see this video listen to your advice and I hope you heal up well, I have a similar story to tell and let me tell you I learned how amazing the human body is, it's taken a couple years, but I'm almost 100% again, I can only hope the same is true for you.

I had a car fall off some wheel ramps and crush my head, let me be the first to welcome you to the club!

If you're out there living life, this stuff happens, I'm glad you're back to tell the story.

As a oldish time firework pyro, I feel fortunate playing with fire and not getting licked like you. I've had family have medical near misses. I'm sincerely grateful that you shared your experience, because at the end of the end of the day safety matters and it takes only one time.... Happy New Year!

You are the guy I think of when I’m doing something risky. Glad you kept your vision, leave the “learning the hard way” to us professional knuckleheads. Looking (ha) forward to more videos… Cheers.
