This is a breakdown of the Iconic Photos captured this weekend after the attempt on Donald Trump's Life at a campaign rally. These historic images were captured by Evan Vucci for the AP, Doug Mills for the New York Times, Anna Moneymaker for Getty, and Javin Botsford for the Washington Post.

The cameras used were from Sony and Canon and included the Sony a1, Sony a9 III and my best guess would be Canon R3.

I just was told the audio is slightly off on the right side. I did the editing this time as stephen and dan are busy on something else. I'm not sure why the audio isn't even on both sides. I can not fix that now that the video is posted. Please understand, that was not my intention.

As a photographer, I definitely did pay attention to how the photographers responded. Honestly, they were brave to remain capturing this. Crazy.

The photo with the American flag reminds you just how powerful an image can be.

I don't care who you are. It took guts for the photographer to keep clicking away, and it took guts for a man who'd just been shot to raise his fist in defiance, giving us these images.

The top left photo is absolutely iconic. It would go into history books.

These photos are incredibly powerful. Talk about storytelling.

The crazy thing is that they knowingly turned their backs to the direction the shots came from. Photojournalists are wild.

The flag photo is definitely the best. It was an incredible image and I actually couldn’t believe the photographer was able to get such an amazing shot among all the confusion and chaos. Really great photo

I will say this now, it might be better to turn off the comments on this video. If these devolve away from photography, they will be turned off.

So happy you made this breakdown to highlight the photographers that captured this historic moment. Mad respect to all of these fearless people.

I was a stringer photojournalist for AP WAY back in the 70's. Watching the events as they happened and then watching this video took me back into the Zone. I was one of the press pool photographers photographing Pres. Jerry Ford. The rules were 1) GET THE SHOT! 2) Get the really GOOD shots. After that it was off to the darkroom for a couple hours more work. With a motor driven Nikon FTN, it was 3 FPS at 1/1000. Burns through a 36 exposure role of Tri-X (ISO 400) in 12 seconds. The modern camera equipment makes it so much easier to concentrate on getting the shot.

A tragic event for Trump, the person who died, and for America. Yes, amazing work by the photographers. Pulitzer, yes. With photography on YouTube being so dominated by gear reviews, it's refreshing, even under such horrific circumstances, to have content about photography and photojournalism. Thank you.

10:08 I though iconic photographs belonged to the past, then I saw that photograph. This demonstrates the power of photography, and photographs are still relevant.

I’m an incoming freshman at the University of Texas who will be studying journalism with a focus in photojournalism, and this event has made me that much more ready to continue down that path. Loved this video Jared.

I've always been impressed and amazed how photojournalists function in war zones. This is an example of that.

I think top left photo is absolutely brilliant. Showing flag, security with glasses, Trump injured and a woman trying her best to protect the subject. Absolutely brilliant photo. Skill to get it.

Some really fabulous photos there. Great analysis, Jared! To my eye that first shot with the flag and the fist in the air is quite possibly one of the finest and most perfectly timed shots in American political history. The framing, placement, timing, exposure, and everything else are all absolutely perfect. It is without question a Pulitzer worthy shot, and may be remembered as one of the greatest ever. Experience for that photojournalist took over in a moment of crisis, and he rose to the occasion.

As someone who done photography in college, I can confidently say this is one of the most iconic photographs I've ever seen.

Excellent breakdown, Jared. Absolutely incredible, historic images. Evan’s photograph is probably the greatest of all time.

Jared - I have never made a comment on the many photo videos I have watched you share and have thoroughly enjoyed in the past, but I must say: There is something about this particular photo post from you that was unusually profound. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it was very powerful. What you said, the way you said it, the passion - was not just informative, but inspired.
As a person who has been obsessed with photography since about age 11, thank you for breaking down such 4 wildly "intense" photos so perfectly, and giving well-desrved credit to the photographers who got such incredible shots under such incredible pressure. Thank you for not getting political, obviously not the time or place, but I will say my heart goes out to the man who was killed protecting his family. - Again, thank you, every word you uttered was powerful and passionate. - Lynda Power (July 20, 2024).
