How To Install 7 Speed Cassette On 8/9/10 Speed Hub

Показать описание
I show what you need to do to mount a 7 speed cassette on to a bike wheel hub designed to fit 8, 9 or 10 speed cassettes. It involves mounting a 4.5mm spacer onto the hub. But you may need to file notches into the spacer to avoid having the cassette wobble. The wobble is caused by uneven rivets. I found these on Shimano cassettes.

👍 And please give my video a thumbs up 👍

You can also file off the rivet ends and remove the rivets to make the back of the cassette flat. The purpose of the rivets is to keep the cogs aligned and together when they are off the bike for convenience (not necessity), but they don't serve any purpose when the cassette is mounted on the wheel.

You are a champion RJ. Have just got a Trek 7.1Fx and put on some wheels with 8speed hub. Need to put a 7 speed cassette on. Cheers mate.

Thanks much for posting this! Your video informed me about spacer thickness and how to do the notches. Just finished doing this on the wheel I bought. I first put without notches on the spacer. The spacer was aluminum and rivet heads pressed their marks on the spacer, there was some wobble. After filing out the notches, no wobble!

Best bicycle videos on youtube man! Keep it up! I have a new wheelset on the way for my Trek 7.1 FX. I will be facing this exact scenario when I put the new rear wheel on my bike. Thanks for the super helpful videos. It is individuals like yourself who make youtube such an indispensable resource!

Thank you so much!! I was thinking of just upgrading all my components to 9 speed, but it turned out to be more expensive than I thought. I'll upgrade someday, but for now, I get to get my bike rolling with my new rims for just a few additional bucks for the spacer.

Holy Moly! RJ needs to be cloned so that we always have his wisdom on tap. Thank you so much for what you do for us home tinkerers from around the world. This was exactly my problem - trying to fit a 7 speed cassette on to a Mavic 217 speed hub. Now, sorted!

This info is a godsend.  I am switching over to disc brakes (BB7s) on a V-Brake  Trek 8.2 and have a two 7 Speed Cassettes (one 14-34 and the 11-34 which will be part of this upgrade).  I can't find an affordable 7 Speed disc ready hub wheelset and this little tutorial just saved me a whole lot of grief!  4.5 mm spacer added to the list!

Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for. Nothing like good quality videos to help amateurs figure out what we're supposed to be doing. (grin)
