Tokies Downtown is a great Japanese restaurant & bar! They transplanted from their Foster City location of over 30 years to downtown San Mateo in 2019. 4th & El Camino. Give'um a try! 😋🤙

I used to go to San Mateo a lot during the 2000s and 2010s and it's nothing like it used to be. There were so many different kinds of restaurants and there was a really good New Orleans restaurant on B Street that used to be in that really nice art deco building that's now a nerd office loft of all things. How sad. There was so much variety in cuisine but now the "diversity" is almost all Asian restaurants. Seriously, who wants hot pots? I went to one with family and you place non-marinated strips of beef, pork, and shrimp in boiling soup broth. Talk about the blandest way to prepare meat as the broth doesn't give it any kind of flavor.
