San Mateo (Spanish for 'Saint Matthew') is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States, on the San Francisco Peninsula. About 20 miles (32 km) south of San Francisco, the city borders Burlingame to the north, Hillsborough to the west, San Francisco Bay and Foster City to the east and Belmont to the south. The population was 105,661 at the 2020 census.

San Mateo has a Mediterranean climate and is known for its rich history at the center of the San Francisco Bay Area. Some of the biggest economic drivers for the city include technology, health care and education.

$2 million gets you a two bedroom one bath ranch fixer upper on a postage stamp lot in San Mateo. There are places in the U.S. where that kind of money could buy you a huge house, pool acreage, etc. Sure the climate is nice but not much else.

I lived here for 60 years than retired and moved to Florida. Taxes are way too high. I miss the weather but hate the prices. Growing up here in the 70s was the best there were so many garage bands I was in one and played the drums. Neil Schon had a band we would go watch his band yes, the guy that's in Journey. Our band played for the USO and entertained the troops at different bases. The bay area was so nice that anybody could afford to live there not anymore. I think the tech people ruined the area, and many good people moved away the only reason I stayed Is because I worked for a major Airline at SFO Airport. My Dad worked for the FAA. The whole block where I lived everybody knew each other it was just the best we had 4th of July party's and blew off many fireworks. They had firework stands on every corner. Not anymore. All of California has become garbage. It's too bad because it used to be such a good State with hard working people and never saw homeless camps or people everybody had a job back in the day.
